Sanda Tank review

The worst of two Worlds? Probably. It’s a Chinese Sanda on a Mumbai Feiko strap. And I love both of them – and together 👌. A marriage in Hell.

Yes, I want. I need a Cartier tank on a similar, but better put together steel bracelet. But my account, my wife, my income, my electric bills says no. No!

-No Tank for you, says reality.

But life is short. So I stumbled upon a watch with a logo that looks like a woman’s … well I could not resist it. I like women. And this one was cheap. Like a lunch cheap. A pair of new socks cheap. But it came on a bracelet cheaper than any lunch. Tossed it.

The replacement strap is from Mumbai. Yes. Sorry. The new strap was also attached to a Feiko – a beautiful Feiko, but I guess that is frowned upon here. So I won’t mention the Mumbai Seiko. Not a word. But the strap. It’s made out of the cheapest of metals – old cans recycled from old scrap metals recycled into this evil thing to resize. You have to use all your pliers at the same time, delicately pulling these fragile pieces of near metal things apart and then carefully bending them back together. Well. I hope the Mumbai kids have some kind of machine that puts this beauty together.

But back to the Sanda.

The movement is keeping time – perhaps off by a minute or two after six months – it’s hard to tell. Not too bad. Not too good. But I can’t ignore the feeling of wearing this – ultralight, insanely thin and so delicate that it might fall apart just by looking at it. Very deluxe (if you ignore the construction, the quality and more or less everything about this watch.)

And the dial? Could it be a piece paper? It has the texture of rough sun faded copier paper, but the printing is actually really nice. Well the watch itself is a carbon copy of the real thing so copier paper would make sense. And you don’t have to worry about water resistance or AR-coatings or any other fancy features – just keep it away from any real life activities and you should be fine.

Will I buy a proper Tank? Yes, when I inherit my distant unheard of relatives. Until then I can certainly live with this delightful blingbling monster.

If only it had SANDA in small script in the "V" in the VII marker. That would make it at least a 4 out of 5 for the dial!
