Tokyo recommendations

… after one week in Tokyo hunting for a pink dial watch I found three. One is actually pink, one is more light blue than pink and the third is so white it actually makes my hairy wrist look tanned, but in some conditions it displays a beautiful array of pastels. Including pink. Sometimes.

But if you’re here or are planning on going to Tokyo I can recommend two places:

HOUSEKIHIROBA Shibuya Main Store 宝石広場 渋谷本店

and

KOMEHYO(コメ兵) SHINJUKU (they have shops in other locations as well).

Other places have been hit and miss. The Koenji area have some nice vintage shops, but the watch selections are mostly G-Shocks.

The shops recommended might seems to be located at really expensive addresses, but their second hand prices are very competitive and most watches are in pristine condition – they claim some have scratches, but the japanese must have macro lenses eyes. Flawless. Just as everything else here.

But on to the watches. My first deal – a used quartz GS Sea of clouds (SBGP017) – no, it isn’t pink at all, but it matches my jeans and I’ll probably wont have to send it back for service before I pass.

Second one (F-91WS-4): Yes, pink. And will probably also outlast me. Lighter than the GS, probably more or less as precise and more water resistant (by the way: here they rate ‘30 meters’ as ‘life resistant’).

The third (sbgx333), and probably the last pick up, is right up my alley – only blingbling – the dial might be called subtle, but it’s not. A MOP on a nine link blingy bracelet. 👌

All in all – a very pleasant hunt and three very, very nice summer quartzes.

Great job hunting! 😀

May I ask what price range is for good second GS quartz in Tokyo these days? I often wonder if it’s worth it to try and find something domestic through yahoo auctions or something.
