What Movie? What Watch?

Image

Which Movie inspired you to go get “that watch” to add to your collection and why?

Here is mine:

I think most Crunchers know this one by now but for those who don’t…

Seiko Arnie

Snj025 (not the original but the re released model)

This movie when I was a kid was so fascinating for me. It was the first time me seeing an alien that look so real and an action character that look so alien! It became my all time favorite movie and still is so when I started collecting and found out there was a iconic watch worn in the move.

I HAD TO HAVE IT!

And not for nothing it’s a really cool watch!

Here are pictures of my Seiko Arnie.

I modified the Shroud to metal and changed the band a few times now.

Me trying to resist getting the watch 🙃

What’s your story?

It's the watch in my favourite film

Image

Love the film, scared me to death when I first saw it, and been a bit of jaws nut ever since, so of course when the re edition watch came out it was a must have.

·

It's MIB and their alien-looking Hamilton Ventura

I haven't bought it, but here's hoping I'll be able to!

Yes!

That movie scared me to death as well when I was a young boy. I didn’t go in the water at the beach for 2 years lmao 🤣

I might have to add this to my future purchases

Did you get the re addition yet?

If so send me a shot of it!

Another good one. I took a look at it to buy as well but not ready to brining it in just yet. Definitely a cool design. Very different. If you do end up getting it definitely post it up! And thank you for reminding me about that bad boy.

Probably won't be in the near future tho, bit I will!

This is the re edition (though they keep bringing new models out, basically the same case) I put it on a vintage strap so it looks different.

Seeing this iconic watch on the wrist of James Gandolfini's character Tony Soprano for six seasons as well as in countless films makes the Day-Date a super fun watch to wear. Over the top? You bet!

Image

(Rolex Day-Date,"President",18038)

Other luminaries include at least four U.S. Presidents, Russell Crowe, Eminem, Pablo Escobar, Bono, Warren Buffet and wait for it ... the Dalai Lama!

·

Willard, Apocalypse Now. (X2, Green+Black)

SM300, Spectre

Interstellar, Murph (sold, crap)

·

I started my watch collecting exactly because of it’s relation to movies. Starting with the Seiko Giugiaro Ripley used in the movies Aliens. Got the reissue one.

Image

And later the Hamilton from the movie Interstellar but the one used by the character Cooper, the khaki aviation pilot day date.

Image

And now my collection mostly revolves in movie and popular culture related watches

What I find interesting with movie watches is less what the watch is, but more of how it represents the era of movie or the character. One of my favorites is the Ripley, where two casio modules were put end to end. I did my own version using a World Time and an F-91w and it was a fun way to pay homage to a futuristic looking watch!

Absolutely fantastic!!

I love the way it came out and it’s very creative taking inspiration from Alian which is a close cousin to predator!

I might have to steal this idea my friend I’m sorry.

How does it wear on the wrist?

Can you send a shot if it on wrist?

Over the top and just right at the same time! Beautiful watch. I hope one day I can afford this watch.

I always wanted a gold watch in my collection but I want it to be a real deal watch and precious metal like full gold or what ever is exceptable.

Tbh it was not a comfortable setup. The F91-w sat at an awkward angle on the wrist when it's placed that high. However, there is a hack. It's the same idea only instead you separate the F91-w module further and place it so it sits on the underside of the wrist instead. It's more ergonomic and still allows for 2 time zone tracking. Here it is with my CWC tracking local time and the F91-w module tracking Syndey time (relatives).

Black Willard just been sent off to Seiko UK to have the bezel insert replaced after I buggered it up in a failed bleach patina experiment 🙄🤣

( You can read about that in previous posts )

No lie. Predator made me want a Seiko Arnie.

Interstellar makes me want a Murph. Men in Black made me want a Hamilton Ventura, but I like the Elvis 80 version instead.

Yes! I love this one. Dreyfus wore this yes? Not Quint, correct?

I got an F91W after watching a Saudi fellow talking while wearing it in a cave.

That’s a classic

Did you mod the strap?

How are you liking it over all so far?!

I gave it to my 11 year old son. The power went out at school one day, and that watch made him the one eyed giant in the land of the blind.
