Here are my HMT watches that the wife and I own. After finally convincing her to let me get her a watch after seeing this model I took that super rare opportunity to get a matching “his” watch with it. She actually does actually wear the watch and says that she like it.

·

Funny enough We still haven’t warn the watches at the same time. But here is a wrist shot of both of us wearing it. I love the vintage feel of them to be honest and they where super affordable on eBay. She doesn’t care for the red second hand so I will probably just remove it for her all together.

This is my Fav model of the RM Brand. The RM 055 aka the Bubba Watson. To be honest it’s just purly because of the look. It reminds me of the G shocks that came out in high school some 19 years agro just about. Of course I don’t have 320k to part with for this watch 😅

San Martin mostly does homage watches so I don’t really have an opinion on which model would be my favorite watch from them. That being said I did get the Sub no date homage from pagani design and i choose then because they has the No date option. Of course if you know me by now you know I’m working on modifying it 🤭

The HMT (Hindustan Machine Tools) movements were a significant chapter in India's industrial history. These movements, primarily during the 1970s and 1980s, were a series of protests and strikes by the workers of HMT, a state-owned company that manufactured machine tools and watches. The workers were demanding better wages, working conditions, and job security. These movements gained widespread attention and became symbolic of the larger struggles faced by industrial workers in India during that era. The HMT movements highlighted issues related to labor rights, union activism, and the broader socio-economic landscape. They also played a role in shaping labor policies and discussions about workers' rights in the country.

From rudimentary to advanced level machinery, we needed a bottom up approach, thus in the year 1953, Hindustan Machine Tools, a public sector undertaking or what we know today as HMT was set up. The initiative that was taken to produce mother machines was industrially and strategically very important for the growth and development of India. The term ‘Machine Tools’ here itself is self explanatory where it is well understood that these are means to develop any kind of advanced machinery, starting from aircraft to missiles and from ships to submarines. In Pandit Nehru’s words this establishment was revered as one of the ‘Temples of Modern India

But within a decade a necessity was felt where an important piece of timekeeping was missing from the wrist of common masses. A simple and rugged watch for the Indian public. At that time watches were mostly imported or parts were imported and then assembled in India. Like some of the watch brands, then available in India were West End, Anglo-Swiss, etc., and were out of reach for most of the public due to price and limited availability. By that time HMT was quite confident in their experience to manufacture precision components

In 1961, HMT was entrusted with setting up a watch manufacturing unit in India. But this was a completely unknown territory for HMT then, so they collaborated with Citizen Watches Co., Japan; and set up the first watch factory in Bangalore in the same year. The foundation stone was laid by Mr. Manubhai Shah, the then Minister for Industry.
