Seiko Alpinist GMT stopped when setting time

I was pulling my watch back a couple of minutes today to get it back in time. When I pushed the crown back in, the second hand stayed stopped. I have the exhibition case back, and I can see that the balance wheel is stopped as well.

Any ideas on what's happened or simple fixes? Is this a warranty repair situation? It's a JDM watch, so I'm not sure I have an applicable warranty that I can use in the USA.

One, awesome LP. I just got my Alpinist GMT last week and the first time I pulled the crown it was not confidence inspiring.

Not to point you away from WC, but while I was investigating my issue, I found this thread that was very helpful to me.

Seems like they'll honor the warranty for that. I was able to get it going again by using the old automatic trick of shaking the shit out of it. I'm going to see if that holds, and if not... file a claim.

About the guitar... Thanks. I built it from a kit. There's a small operation in China ran by one guy than makes stellar kits. You order from him. No website. The old PayPal and pray. It's African mahogany so the back and neck are figured too. Stained with aniline dyes and sealed with french polished shellac. Feels great and no nitro lacquer stickiness. Lollars and aged Gotoh for the bits and bobs. She really rips. I have an SG from him as well, done up all natural with SD Antiquities and the same hardware.

I have been very lucky with all my PayPal and pray purchases! Regarding the guitar, I have a similar looking Godin, but with P90s.

I gave the LP a run today during lunch with the old feline shuffle in A. You may know it as Cat Scratch Fever. It ain't a Birdland, but it gets it done anyway.

If the beat rate is slightly off then they might not start on their own with a full wind without shaking the crap out of it. The pallet fork has to be naturally centered or it can trap the escapement to one side.

So is that a trip to the maker for regulation, or a trip to seiko for repair?

Oh no, I hope there isn't an issue with the crown on these watches as @AllTheWatches comment about the lack of confidence in pulling the crown worries me because I was thinking of picking up the same watch as you during a Spring Japan trip.

I'm glad the old shake it/ whack it worked for you but let us know if this happens again. Still, love the green colorway on these new Alpinists.

With mine there is a point of stickiness to it when I pull it out and in the same spot as I screw down, almost as if there is an imperfect thread. I need to look at it closer. It is largely fine, but takes finesse.

It happened the same thing to my Seiko Presage (caliber 6R35), and it was repaired by a professional. I do not know what exactly was the problem, I only know that if you want a Seiko, it is much better you go for a quartz or "hybrid" one (like Grand Seiko's Spring Drive).

Funny thing though, I’ve got a handful of cheaper watches with the NH35 in them and they all run great. Toyotas run better than Lexuses I guess.

warranty if available but regulation works.

My only bad experiences with watches are related to Seiko and Grand Seiko (all with pure mechanical calibers). I had a NH35 equipped watch (Zelos Swordfish) and it was running great. I sold it only because at a certain point in time I could not bear that "Z" on its dial anymore.
