Review of a Rolex wanna be... na, homage... na, straight rip off????!

I had been looking for an automatic GMT watch for a long time, and I came across the Pagani Design PD-1662 on sale for less than 70€. I was intrigued by the design, which is very similar to the Rolex GMT Master II in two tone, rose gold and steel (aka Rootbeer). Some people might call this an homage, some might call it theft, but I decided to give it a try and see for myself.

The watch arrived in a nice box with a warranty card and a bracelet adjustment tool. The first thing I noticed was the weight and the quality of the bracelet. It is made of PVD rose gold and 1060 steel, with solid end links and an oyster-style bracelet and clasp. The clasp has the Pagani Design logo and a safety lock. The bracelet feels solid and comfortable on the wrist, and it is easy to adjust the size with the screw links (for my 19 cm wrist I took out 3 links). The watch also has a brown and black ceramic bezel, which rotates smoothly and has a satisfying click. The bezel matches the black dial, which has rose gold indices and hands, and a date window at 3 o’clock. The dial also has the Pagani Design logo and the GMT text. The watch has a sapphire crystal, which is scratch-resistant and has a "cyclops" magnification over the date.

The watch is powered by a Pearl DG5833 GMT movement, which is based on a Miyota design with added GMT functions. The movement has a hacking and hand-winding feature, a power reserve of about 40 hours, and 21,600 bph. The GMT function allows you to track a second time zone with the arrow GMT hand, which can be set independently from the main time. The movement is working accurately and reliably, but I have not tested it on a time-grapher, so I cannot comment on the amplitude or the beat precision. The watch has a screw-down crown, which is signed with the Pagani Design logo, and a water resistance of 100 meters.

The watch is not without flaws, however. The first watch I received had a broken GMT function, so I had to return it and order a new one. The second watch was working fine, but the hacking was acting a bit weird when it arrived, but now it is working perfectly. The watch is perfect for my wrist, with a diameter of 40 mm and a thickness of 13 mm. It might not fit well on smaller wrists, and it might be too flashy for some people’s taste. And as mentioned the watch is also a blatant copy of the Rolex GMT Master II, which might bother some purists and collectors. The watch does not have any originality or personality, and it might be seen as a cheap knock-off by some.

Overall, I am happy with the Pagani Design PD-1662. It is a great value for money, and it offers a lot of features and quality for a low price. It is a beautiful and functional watch, and it satisfies my need for a GMT watch. It is not a perfect watch, and it is NOT a Rolex nor will it ever come close to it, but it is a good alternative for those who want a GMT watch without having to sell their organs or sacrifice their first born. I would recommend this watch to anyone who likes the design and the functionality of the Rolex GMT Master II, but does not mind the lack of originality and the potential issues with the movement.

I really don't want to give this a high rating since it's a copy, but the original is 5 stars in every aspect and the Pagani is not a horrible watch, just very unoriginal.
