I wonder how accurate a gauge is the number of spring bar tools to the amount of time in the hobby? This is what <6 months in the hobby looks like. I can only imagine how many of these some have. ๐ตโ๐ซ

I stopped counting and started throwing the bent ones away ๐
Beautiful Bel Canto there! ๐
๐ what a great equation. This many years in the hobby equals roughly this many spring bar tools. Also nato straps, other straps in general. Now I have a big obnoxious bag of straps. Tread very carefully in this new hobby of yours, good sir.
I use them as Hors d oeuvres forks.
A watch lover 40 years, addition 3 yrs. Dam you Covid.
I have been collecting for more than 30 years and not a single one of those tools, I generally use them with their original straps or bracelets
Looking, for almost 25 years. Buying, for about 10 years.
Please don't say you use those on your watches...
Free spring bar tools are worth the price you paid for them.
The best way to avoid damaging your lugs or straps is:
1) Throw away the cheap free spring bar tools
2) Purchase a Bergeon spring bar tool that was made to remove spring bars without nicking your lugs - example...
3) Always cover the exposed portion of your lugs and case with removable blue painter's tape to protect against the "slip and scratch"
The cost of a quality tool may be $50, but you will be using it forever and it is likely the tool you will use the most in your collecting.
"Free" spring bar tools only have to damage your beautiful watch once with their super sharp unprofessional ends to make them a very costly choice.
Experience = Bergeon

I was quickly getting to the same problem with that drawer, until I found someone posted a great idea for straps.
These can be found on Ali or Temu for about $10.
These are really handy, I got one for 19/20mm Straps and one for 22/24mm straps.
