Orient Kamasu/RA-AA0813R19B Review

This is my first diver, but if other divers are anywhere near this good consider me a convert🤩. Jokes aside this watch looks fantastic. From the magenta face, to the dual coloured bezel, to the bronze coloured case everything works really well together. Even the text on the face (something I normally dislike) only seems to add to the overall aesthetic without making the face too busy. Even the strap, I’ve got alternatives but the strap that comes with it works so well I haven’t been able to pull the trigger on making the change. Also the quality control is very good. I’ve heard of alignment problems with Orient but everything here lines up very well and the fit and finish is great.

Negatives: the movement is not anywhere near as smooth as my other automatic. Also I can see how a bi-directional bezel would be an improvement. Also and this is a tiny thing that would never stop me from purchasing such a great watch, they call it a limited edition. This is available everywhere I’ve checked I just went with the best price. Also while I believe this version does look different from other Kamasus putting limited edition everywhere feels a little like false advertising.

But overall this watch is great for the price you get a saphire crystal, automatic movement and a fantastic looking watch for a great price.

Good review overall! I have an Orient Mako II, and one of the issues I have with it is turning the bezel. I have a much harder time gripping the bezel on my Orient than on my other diver's watches. I am curious why you would prefer a bidirectional bezel on a diver's watch rather than a unidirectional one. I much prefer a unidirectional bezel.

Like I said this is my first diver but the rotation seems easy enough I could see that if you’re actually diving somewhere cooler with wet or drysuit gloves on it could be tricky, but as I’m just an open water diver who uses a dive computer that’s not an issue for me. The bi-directional thing is mostly so if I go too far with the rotation I can just go back instead of going around again. But that’s probably more down to my personal taste. Thank you for the reply 🙏.

Color combo is awesome.

IMHO best diver for the money.  I have the latest Gen 2 version. Only change considered is the band.

I’m with you completely. But I do really like the band. I’ve got a rubber one that I can swim with, but even though I change the straps of my watches myself and it takes no time I can’t bring myself to pull the trigger. 🤦‍♂️

Orients are super solid and reliable. They are Seikos of sorts. Water Resistance is tight, and they are very accurate. Kamasus are entry-level watches, though. The LEs are sweet and IMHO the way to go.

Agreed but I’m a sucker for a limited edition no matter what. Still say Kamasu is the best diver for the price but people shouldn’t expect it to compete with something double the price.

I have a blue Mako II, so I get your woes witha tight bezel. I recall that diver watch bezels are meant to remain in position once set n thus they are made tight to prevent any unnecessary rotations in case of accidental knocks while diving...

Having said that, I do prefer my bezel to be a tad easier to turn as well... Try a drop of sewing machine oil...

Works like magic. 😉
