Bulova Marine Star 96B272 Review

I'm going to preface this review by saying that this is a very nice looking watch. The dial looks fantastic;

with everything well proportioned and the functions well measured out, so even though the dial is busy it looks organised. The case is nice with lugs that don't stick out too far a nice easy to use rotating bezel and the lume something I am not normally too fussed about looks great;

Even the watch's packaging seems to be well thought out and designed;

Which no one cares about but Bulova still did a good job with it. I won't go into why as I said no one cares but it just shows the levels that Bulova went to, to ensure that this watch was a good product.

However, this watch is huge. As someone who is relatively new to the watch enthusiast world I hadn't quite understood how big a 45mm watch would feel or how heavy this would be on the wrist, after all I am a larger than average size man and I really like my GST-B400D-1AER a larger watch. But, as I have said on other threads here on WC the G-Steel feels as though it's supposed to be big and chunky, it's a G-Shock and should be able to take on anything and will take a beating if so needed. But this Bulova is not that for me. This watch is not a beater, sure the sheer mass of it means that it can probably take more of a hit than many other watches, but it is not shock proof and, in my opinion is too pretty to be used as a beater. The chronograph is very good with the sub dial at three meauring out a 1/10th of a second and the sub dial at 9 measuring minutes and going up to 60 minutes, making it great for people who like an analog watch when working out. However, I like to wear a watch that does not force me to reduce the weights I lift, or make me worried I will run in circles😜.

Dispite all of this I have to say that this is a very nice watch and I would recommend it, to someone with a larger wrist than me or someone who really likes oversized watches. Luckily I'm an ex-rugby player so I'm sure I'll be able to find someone who wants this, as unfortunately this very nice looking watch is not for me.

Thank you for the review.  It looks like the lug-to-lug is 49mm - and definitely large on your wrist. Bulova advertises this line as "Live and play in maritime watches" which suggests they're made to be worn in rough conditions.  Still, most of the watches in the Marine Star collection look better suited on a skipper than the crew... 😀

I agree completely I used to work on building sites and I’dbe worried about using it if I was still on the tools. Now I’m management and the watch doesn’t fit under my cuffs.

I tried that watch out last month loved it but what stop me was too big for me. If I had the write wrist size that one and the Lunar would been on my collection already. Great review you spot on.

Thanks yeah it’s a shame I’ve been keeping it as it’s such a nice looking watch but I just don’t use it. So it’s time it went to someone who will.
