Grand Seiko adjustable bracelet!

I was having a look at the GS Black Stream SLGA015G. I have never seen this photo before and never handled this model however looks to me like GS has introduced a micro adjustment! Does anyone know? This could be a huge game changer for the brand if it’s the case. thoughts / info? Looks like a diver’s adjustable strap

I would love to try the bracelet. Would also love to see it on SBGE215. Could be a terrific option. #grandseiko

I still really want a watch with this feature.

But they maybe overdid it a bit. Hard to tell the size from the photos but I would want it fairly compact rather than having such a huge adjustment range.

That range I think is useful for going over a dive suit but I don't think anyone is diving with a gs.

Also it needs to be adjustable with a button - otherwise what's the point. I need to adjust it several times a day which. If it's complicated then I won't use it.

Looks similar to the Seiko MM300 clasp. If that is the case it would definitely be bulky.

This is GS's diver clasp:

  • It is not a "micro-adjust" per se
  • It is specifically designed to enable you to significantly expand the bracelet to wear over your wet suit as you go down 100M, without having to undo the lock on the clasp
  • On typical Swiss divers, you gotta unlock the watch to then utilize the dive extension - Seiko figured that it's better to enable the dive extension without unlocking, because you don't want to accidentally drop your watch and have it fall into the abyss as you're fighting off the Megalodon in the Mariana Trench
  • As you can see from the photos, it is incredibly bulky

Just one clown-on-the-internet's opinion:

  • I've never understood the fixation on micro-adjust
  • I've owned a number of Rolex, Omega, and Breitling, and not a single Swiss bracelet has ever worn comfortably for me due to the incredibly bulky clasps - when I'm desk diving, I prefer a small, thin clasp, so as to better rest my wrist on my laptop, as I furiously type numbers into spreadsheets
  • GS, for better or worse, has a very different philosophy from the Swiss when it comes to their watch lines
  • Masterpiece collection is for Japanese billionaires
  • Elegance collection is dress watches so they all come on leather straps
  • Heritage collection (which is what nearly all enthusiasts buy from GS) is sporty dress watches so they all have 100M water resistance and come on bracelets with small clasps, so that buyers can desk dive comfortably
  • Evolution 9 collection is just Heritage collection watches with the new design language and given its own new name of "Evolution 9" so that GS can charge you $9k for watches they would have previously charged you $5k for
  • Sport collection is sports watches that allow you to cosplay that you're a young, virile, athletic dude, instead of the middle-aged, paunchy schlub you really are - as a result, these are the watches that have bigger clasps and ability to micro-adjust bracelet sizing, but typically with drilled holes in the clasp that require tool to adjust to again try to prevent extra bulk...  because all the "bulk" you'll ever need is already there hanging on your gut, you don't need any more on your wrist
  • The GS divers are the only watches with this massive on wrist dive extension system

Do I love the on-wrist dive extension system?  Absolutely!  Does it suck when I'm desk diving?  Absolutely!  (Which is why most of the time, I wear my GS divers on leather straps!)  In spite of the suckitude of the clasp bulkiness, it allows me to pretend that the next time I have to sit through yet another pointless corporate training I'll have the guts to do the right thing - overturn the conference room table and give everyone the middle finger as I quit this joke of a job, and then get into my Porsche 918, drive to the beach and jump into the water to fight that Megalodon at the bottom of the Mariana Trench.

This is the GS diver clasp. It’s been available for years. It’s thin and cheaply made and well below the standards of other dive clasps by similar brands. GS really needs to step up their bracelet construction. Watch is amazing, dials amazing, movements amazing, Spring Drive extra amazing… Bracelets just fair at best.

Seikonand Grand Seiko share this clap system on their divers. In Titanium the clasp is super light. The system works well but it is chunky. I actually took the bracelet off of my Marine Master 300m but kept the buckle because I love the ratcheting system. My GS Diver has the same clasp but lighter.

I tried a Seiko with this style clasp on in store once and was not impressed :(

Felt awkward, and pondering about real world use made me think I would catch it on something every time I moved my arm. (The salesman agreed, but tbf he was notably grumpy).

I think systems that integrate adjustment completely within the length of the clasp (Rolex, GO, Formex, Rolex Glidelock knockoffs, etc) are much more versatile in real world application than clasps like these that essentially just extend the length of the clasp.
