The Best WW2 Military Reissue? - Longines Heritage (38mm) vs Vertex M100A (40mm) Watch Review

TGV recently posted this review: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2ATZF1TC1Aw I found it to be compelling and highly informative. Spoiler: Vertex clobbered Longines. I am not sure if it was an entirely even-handed review though. TGV was clearly pulling for the little guy -- Vertex -- but he rightfully pointed out several flaws / missteps by Longines (a brand I admire).

Interestingly, TGV noted his dissatisfaction with the modular "cost cutting" movements employed by modern Swatch brands. His take was that Longines should have opted for a more faithful rendition of the original by using a hand wound, COSC movement given the price. He made a good argument that the Longines release was essentially a money grab.

I can't remember a recent discussion of modular movements (I'm sure there are many). What is the biggest drawback? Thx.

On first sight my eye went directly to the Vertex, that broad arrow mark!

I struggle justifying the price of the Vertex, but for a money no object field watch, it would be the one.

Check out the Timor Watches - they are properly sized at 36.5mm and can be had in manual or automatic. Timor was an original dirty dozen.https://timorwatch.com/collections/watches/products/heritage-field Closer really than the Vertex to an original, and far better priced. The Vertex pricing is adventurous.

Love the Vertex, but pricey.

I would purchase this one. I'm a fan of this style.

Some of the original British non-dirty dozen military watches from this era (the ATP watches)are still fairly easy to get hold of, but some have had a very hard life!. The dirty dozen ones carry an extraordinary premium now. I think this ATP version from Timor is very choice. The Timor use the same Sellita movement as Vertex, except its the standard version, whereas the Sellita uses the top grade version.

The Longines has always been a bit of a misfire, with the faux-aged dial, wrong case shape, thick automatic movement etc.

The Vertex is incredibly well made and feels “worthy” of the price once in hand. Don’t know how to explain it, but I swear if has the nicest crystal that I’ve experienced at any price range. Unfortunately for me, it’s simply too big. If it was 38mm, I’d still own it.

Vertex has gone and done what other brands stay clear of doing and that is improve the original concept. The lume blocks and the water resistance takes the Vertex over the top, except I can’t justify buying it brand new, but I will keep my radar out there on the second hand market.

Agree 100%. It’s expensive but I’m a fan after viewing the video. Hopefully there will be a hefty discount in the secondary.
