P39 on Christmas Day

Rocking the P39 on Christmas Day but also testing this case today - a small project I’ve been working on and off over the past few weeks. I was looking for something compact, discreet, and durable enough to safeguard my watch on days when I decide to switch to another favorite timepiece halfway through the day at work or when I’m traveling light with just two watches. The case is built on a Pelican platform, ensuring it's resistant to crushing, impervious to dust, and waterproof. I'm currently in the process of developing a 4 slot alternative. Curious to gauge interest in this level of protection. I'm eager to receive everyone's feedback and welcome suggestions for improvements or ideas for additional features.

Thats such a cool idea to have an airtag inserted into the cushion as well. Is the top lid not applying too much pressure onto the watch head??

Make sure we can buy it in the UK!!

@tokyo_watch_guy Great question. Vertically, there’s just enough space between the pillow and the top lid (approx. 10mm), and upon closure, the lid compresses slightly. It’s worth noting that the pillow is the component that absorbs the compression the most, particularly when the Air Tag is not present. Horizontally, the watch (up to 44mm, including the crown) fits perfectly into the surrounding foam when the lid is shut. Once securely locked, any potential movement is entirely eliminated.

Love the AirTag slot! Perhaps you could make it a bit compact by trimming off vacant space?

i like the concept of a case to hold 1 or 2 watches for this purpose. 4 watch box seems like overkill for travel.

two things came to my mind for your consideration:

  1. AirTags have a speaker in them, and speakers naturally have a magnetic component to it. Will having a magnetic field that close to a watch movement pose any risk? Maybe not for the Pelagos 39 shown here which is mostly amagnetic. But might be something to consider.

  2. Watch rolls hold your watch secure without surfaces rubbing against the watch. There’s a good reason for this because even if the watch is held in place in soft foam, if ever there was any sand or dust caught up in the foam then your watch is just rubbing up against that gritty and abrasive foam that might cause swirls and micro scratches. I think i would prefer a carry solution like a watch roll over a padded foam holder.

just my two cents. but your execution of this concept looks great. even tho it might not be for me, others might find it appealing. good luck with the design!

@BillableHours You make a valid point regarding the 1 or 2 slot case for travel. Given that my own collection is still relatively small, with only four nicer watches that require protection, I'm contemplating shifting my focus to a 4 slot case next.

Thank you for bringing up the concern about the AirTag's speaker / magnet - I hadn't considered that aspect previously. It's an important point, and I appreciate your bringing it to my attention. Given the compact nature of the current case, I had to be inventive in utilizing every bit of available space. In future cases, there might be more room to work with, allowing for better placement of the AirTag away from some sensitive timepieces.

While the foam I'm currently using is dense and not highly porous, I understand the potential for small particles like sand to become trapped. However, it's worth noting that the case remains sealed from external elements most of the time until the lock is opened.

I genuinely value your constructive feedback!

Improving the pillow design for a more precise caseback fit.
