Cool watch story I found while scrolling

From what I can put together this guy is a helicopter pilot and has a Tudor gmt, somehow the fire suppression system in the hangar went off and drenched the guy in fire retardant (really bad I’d be surprised if he didn’t have chemical burns) and the end result was that his gmt bezel faded into what you see above. He now has a unicorn Tudor gmt with a bezel that people have waited for for 40+ years on Rolex’s and I’m jealous. I wonder what this Unicorn would be worth down the track just for the stories attached? Also if this is your watch and you’re part of the community let us know how you’re doing!

Ugh, I can't imagine what sort of chemical attacked the blue but left the red alone...

Nothing good put it that way 🫠

Oof, at least it's not halon gas. Had it been that kind of fire suppressant his heirs would be selling his watch by now.

Surfactants, Glycol compounds (organic solvents), foam stabilizers (some kind of alcohol solution IIRC) and corrosion inhibitors. 'Bout the only reason he's doesn't have chemical burns are because the surfactants is not in high enough concentration is my guess.

I have seen the after effects of a hangar fire suppression system going off back in the 90s. The Airmen involved didn’t really get any chemical burns, but the Woodland Camouflage Pattern uniforms were essentially bleached white.

This happens more than you would think. It did leave a nice effect on the watch. I think it is a plus that Tudor still uses aluminum while others are going to ceramic.
