Lucky 13? Fortis Flieger F-39

Seems like the perfect day to take a few shots of my Fortis Flieger F-39. Berlac Fleur Orange is a cool accent color for the watch and it is further highlighted by the day's date of "13". Considered a lucky number according to Fortis, new watches by the brand are launched on the 13th of the month. A little detail and fun fact for those who may not know why the "13" is orange on the date disk.

Fortis don’t get mentioned enough in my opinion. Their excellent watches and I would love to add one to my collection, fingers crossed, this year 👍 This would be my pick if I can find one ☝️

Nice. A bit smaller and some other differences, but, I would consider this a good alternative to say a Sinn 104a.. you know the one with the black dial with Arabic numerals?

But, I suspect the Fortis might be slightly better QC. I've owned 2 104i's, both in the white dial. I really love that particular watch. But, the movement always seemed like it could use better regulation and make it run a little more accurate. Additionally, if it ever needs service, I feel you really need to send it back to an authorized service center as no watchmaker I've tried has the right tools to open the 104 case back. It has particularly small indents which most case back tools are not capable of fitting and opening it.

I've owned a Sinn 104-RS limited edition in white. Excellent watch and I may have just been fortunate but mine ran at + 2 seconds a day, so I was very impressed. The AD where I purchased it from has excellent customer service and also have a watch service centre here in Australia where all the Sinn watches he sells go for service and regulation, if need be. So again just lucky I guess.

The reason it was sold on, was I just didn't like the fully polished case, that was my only issue with it. If they did bring out a fully brushed version I would definitely consider buying another. In saying that Sinn did recently bring out a 104 limited edition for their FaceBook group which was almost fully brushed, just a shame it is limited in numbers, hopefully moving forward Sinn starts to listen to their customers or potential buyers who want this model with a fully brushed case. I mean after all isn't this meant to be a Tool Watch?

I agree with you on your choice, the 104 with the black dial and Arabic numerals, great looking watch. I even considered buying one and having the dealer send it away to have the case fully brushed. Cost wise it was only about $300 AUD, so not overly expensive but I think I'll wait until they come to their senses and bring out one that already is.

In the meantime I have my Damasko to fill that void along with my two 556's so I'm in no rush you might say and if I have the funds and find that particular Fortis I'll be a happy man, well until the next killer watch comes up 🤣

I love German watches you might say and have a few on my radar 👍

Love the watch. Wish the 39 had a lug width of 18 or 20mm. The 13, I believe, was because Jupp bought the company on Friday the 13th. Someone can double check that.
