NWA? New Bracelet for the Speedmaster
This might be bending the rules a bit but I truly believe that this bracelet lends a unique and brand-new identity to my Speedmaster. I chose the Speedmaster Reduced because the Professional's lugs overhang my tiny wrist. But over time I started to find the dial of the Reduced a little too small for my liking.
That's where the Forstner Komfit bracelet comes in. Once on, the straight endlinks which expose the gap between the speedy's twisted lugs contributed to the watch's overall size and definitely help create the illusion of a larger wrist presence. The mesh is extremely light, yet seems firm and secure. It is both, comfortable and confidence inducing.
The Komfit's significance lies in its association with the space program. Unlike the NASA-certified Speedmaster by Omega, the Komfit lacked specific accreditation. During early space missions, astronauts favored the Komfit for its compatibility over space suits. In 1964, NASA started acquiring Komfits, rebranded as "JB Champion," for use in Gemini and Apollo missions. This unique narrow mesh bracelet became a prevalent feature in astronaut photographs from that era, contributing to the historical narrative of NASA.

Looks good! I don’t have the Komfit, but do have a couple other Forstner bracelets, including the jubilee for the BB58 and the flat link for Speedy. Great bracelets!

Another reason I’d heard that NASA liked the Komfit is that it was weaker than the bracelet. They were concerned that the bracelet was so strong that if the astronaut got caught on something, he’d injure his arm before the watch let go. So they went with the JB when not using the Velcro.
