What's up with Luminox?

I've been watching many, many videos about watches, and not once have I heard someone talk about Luminox.

Why not?

Luminox has a small following. Channels survive & grow based on # of views and their following doesn't draw views.

I've seen many channels that talk about cheaper Asian watches, but they haven't talked about Luminox, either. 🤷🏼‍♂️

My impression is that Luminox sells Timex quality watches at Tissot prices.

Luminox makes mostly quartz watches in plastic cases, with a purchased "license" to call them Navy Seal watches.

Essentially it leaves Luminox looking like an Airsoft/LARP wannabe brand.

I'm sure the watches are good, but the marketing lets them down.

Cheaper doesn't mean smaller following.

Asian watches are less costly to make, sell and buy, so many people buy them & are interested in finding out about them.

Luminox are kind of in that middle ground where you can find just as good watches in the same price range that people prefer more than Luminox.

They don't advertise a lot and so people don't talk about them.

If you feel strongly enough, you should start a channel about them.

I think Luminox would be more popular among the enthusiast community if they had better fit and finish. My Navy Seal Colormark has absolutely horrible second hand alignment.

Luminox is now basically a Swiss brand with headquarters in the USA and seems to suffer from the same problems plaguing other small Swiss brands. Victorinox is the only small military themed Swiss watch brand that has any kind of online presence in watch forums and even in their case this is very limited. They don't seem to advertise a lot, they send few watches for YT reviews and they don't seem to be able to create online enthusiast communities.

And Victorinox is a large and profitable conglomerate with a world know brand name. When was the last time you saw or heard about Mondaine who are famous for their train station clocks or Wenger?

Selling military themed watches manufactured in Switzerland isn't a recipe for automatic success, even Marathon who similarly Has its HQ in the American continent is really tiny when you think about it.

Did Victorinox not buy Wenger?

Did Victorinox not buy Wenger?

Maybe, but if it did, who cares?

I just registered on the site today and when you join it asks you to select at least three watch brands from a very long list of watches. Luminox didn’t even appear as an option! But I’m absolutely loving my recently acquired Luminox Atacama Field. It’s the most I’ve spent on a watch since buying a Lum-Tec several years ago.

The lume is absolutely amazing. Really happy with it and just bought an orange rubber strap to mix it up a bit. I know that doesn’t answer your question but just thought I’d throw my two-pence worth in the mix!
