Old Omega Century - Weird jeweller advice?

Last day i talked to my mother about and old and tiny watch i had to make a strap for, a tiny 25mm watch i think from the sixties, with awesome patina! Makes my 37mm Vario look huge

She came out with "Oh wait, i think i have a bag with some old watches"

She found this tiny bag with watches from her youth and my grandmother's life.

First and foremost, a super cool Venus Watch, identical to the "GiWor" in the previous picture and a couple unknown watches.

Then there is a weird Cartier quartz, if i remember correctly.

And this Omega! A minuscule 19mm Century, which i have never seen, with a nice faceted Crystal. I wound It up and sure enough It was running.

It's pristine, looks brand new and for something that's probably pretty old that nice to see! Maybe someone here knows something more about this little thing.

Here comes the weird part: being left there for easily more than 20 years i suggested her to bring It to someone to clean It up and have It in good running conditions, since she wants to use It in special occasions.

The local jeweller told her "i wouldnt open and clean It for the moment. Use It for some days and if something goes wrong you bring It here"

And this confuses me a little. Shouldnt It be better to have It serviced anyways even if it's running? It's been left there for so much time the oils could have dried up or God knows what.

Am i going Crazy?

Let me know, you guys have way more experience in these kind of things, maybe we can find a solution!

Does seem like odd advice! Maybe he's hoping for a more profitable repair in the future, rather than a cheaper service 🤔

That would be a bit of a shitty move! My father was his master when he was in the boyscouts when young.

Hint: the jeweler doesn't want to work on it!

Nightmares that small movement and parts. It will need to go back to Omega to be properly dealt with.

Contact Omega and see if they will service it for you, this is your best bet.

Same thing happened to me. I brought in my watch that was gifted to me by my father. It’s from the 60’s and has never been serviced. The watchmaker said, “wear it and see what happens.” To be fair, the watch runs pretty well but I had the same thought as you.
