Q: How did you get into watch collecting?
On the one hand, I in some ways always have, on the other, it was looking at Bond watches and then watching YouTube during the pandemic.
Q: What was the first watch you ever owned?
I have half a memory of a citron digital watch (thinking about buying one on eBay) or one of those little ones designed to help you tell the time.
Q: What is one piece of advice you have for someone just getting into watches?
Don’t think you have to own four figure named brands. Not least as these days we’d be worried wearing them outside, and watches are made to be worn and do a job at the end of the day. Both things I remind myself of, because my watches likely come from the Argos Catalogue and not a Boutique.
Q: What brands have been getting your attention lately?
I like some of the Dan Henry things, and quite like the Pagani Design homages coming from China. If I win the lottery, I would buy an Omega or two — but have almost zero interest in Rolex. Aside from that, I am interested in a couple of vintage brands, and the kind that disappear and were worn by family back in the day. Lanco, Oriosa, odd randoms from the Argos archives. Orient, Citizen, and Seiko sometimes catch my eye, and I am liking the relaunched Accurist range. Working class watches lol.
Q: What is your grail watch and why?
Omega Seamaster. The NTTD Bond, or one of the older Planet Oceans. Prefer Black dials, so not necessarily the Bond watches usually. I just like it, and I think of ‘Dive Watches’ as really being ‘Dad Watches’ because it seems a more accurate name.
