$3 Thrift Store Find!!

Gotta love those small town thrift stores. Found this beautiful Timex vertical day window watch today. Great condition for its age. Very excited to put a battery in this one. It fully embodied the 80s through and through 🔥

For $3 I couldn’t pull my wallet out fast enough 😂

I very much appreciate these types of posts. A fun, inexpensive and unpredictable way for many to engage with the hobby. A local Swap Meet has a watch guy who installs batteries for $3 to $5 so oftentimes when a seller there tells me a quartz watch "just needs a battery" I have my battery guy install a fresh one and if it doesn't work I immediately get my money back. The only downside is that my collection looks like an unfocused hodgepodge of flea market finds.

Yeah this one looks like it was given as a gift to someone so either they kept it in really nice shape, or didn’t wear it much. By the looks of it I believe it’ll fire right up.

Green is the color of envy, correct?

Neat case shape and date display. I'd say engraved but it looks stamped, personalized case back. And another expansion band back from when Speidel was made in the USA. Win from all angles.

Many older watches that are found in great condition are the result of someone thinking a watch would be a great gift for someone that either didn't care for wearing watches or for that particular model.

Sometimes if a modern collector is really fortunate the recipient put the gifted watch back into it's box and tucked it away for a few decades in a dresser or closet. A cautionary example of why I discourage giving watches as gifts to non-watch people.

Right!? I'm finding though it occasionally hides behind other colors as well!

I had my first expansion bracelet failure yesterday. Blaming it on the eclipse!

OTOH ... watches given to non-watch folk as gifts, often result in some very sweet pre-owned finds by watch enthusiasts!

those cheap expansion bracelets always remind me of my father when I was growing up ... that's all he ever wore on his watches
