80s digital watches has been a favourite of my viewers, so to celebrate 5k subscribers I thought doing a broader review of the whole period of 80s digitals from Casio, Seiko, Citizen and more would be a fun one. I’ve used the inspiration of the classic 80s :”Now that’s what I call music” compilation albums as a theme for the video, with each different type of watch representing a track on the list. We will cover Ana-digi watches, sports watches, nerdy calculator and computer watches, early sensor watches, melody alarms, (su-su-susudio ) pseudo-analogs the rise of the g-shock and many more. Lots of fun making this one and weaving in plenty of 80s references. I hope you enjoy the video!
My name is Gordon and I run a YouTube channel focused largely on digital, electronic and vintage watch history. Link below!
Fantastic, thanks!
That was interesting, it's easy to forget that digital watches were the real battleground in the 80s/90s.
I've always been more of a Timex guy, but some of the old Citizens are pretty cool.

Timex Ironman was my first watch son in with you there. It surprises a lot of people how at the forefront citizen was in the digital game , as most think of them for eco drive and divers. My fav of theirs is the hyper aqualand

I think that Seiko and Casio end up sucking all the oxygen out of the room when it comes to Japanese brands. Seiko with mechanical/quartz analog, and Casio with the digital segment. People know them, so influencers talk about them, pushing other brands even further from the spotlight.
In Canada Timex was always popular, so while it doesn't get much love in the watch community, it's still well known, but like you said, Citizen is pretty much forgotten apart from the Eco-Drive mall watches that are absolutely everywhere.
I'm not sure what my first watch was, likely something cheap and off-brand as I was very young, but the first one I remember was a Timex Atlantis. Even since the early 90's I have owned some version of the Atlantis/Expedition. Right now I own two..
Love it - some fantastic older digital Timex watches - I did a video on it a while back.
