Certina did digital watches?

When you think Certina you likely think the DS models. A personal favourite of mine is the DS N1 designed by Roger Tallon who also did the Lip Mach 2000.

But like many other Swiss brands in the 70s, they also dabbled in digitals. vintagecertinas.ch has a great range of old brochures and I snipped out the following digis. Enjoy!

Tempted to do a deeper dive into the broader Certina brand , similar to my recent Enicar and Lip videos , so let me know if you have any personal favs. The DS worn on Dhaulagiri by Max Eislin came up in my recent watches of the 14 peaks video, and I also like the Chronolympic worn by Yuichiro Miura (the man who skied down Everest) .

I'd expect most brands to have dabbled with quartz. I actually quite like the very plain ones, those with a lot of writing on turn me off.

Yes indeed - I did a pretty deep dive into Swiss digitals on the channel a while back - but don’t remember certina being one of the more prominent ones. My favourite by far is the Omega Equinoxe. The plain ones look quite similar to some of the early orient digitals

I did not know this. From a design standpoint, I find it somewhat amusing that the watch in the first image has unique LCD icons for the different modes, and then has them explicitly labeled above on the surround.
