Recently, my father gifted me his dad’s watch. I always felt a deep connection with my grandfather and namesake, despite him passing away before I was born. I remember this watch from my childhood and my father wore it often as if it was just any other watch (as you can see from the scratched acrylic). Since now I live in a large European city, I don’t feel comfortable ever taking it out of the safety deposit box. Ever since I got it, I knew that I needed to wear it at my wedding. The moment put it around my wrist I instantly felt this connection with both my father, but also my grandad. As far as I can tell it’s pretty rare, considering I’ve found only another example on the internet. If the description of that one is correct, this is a Rolex Day Date 1803 Wide Boy Dial from the late 60s. Would love to hear similar stories from you guys on how a wristwatch can transcend generations.
PS. This was probably never serviced in half a century of distinguished service. I wore it for 24 hours and it was still accurate to the minute.

Lovely story. Fantastic watch.
This is my Air King Date 5700. Also my grandfathers watch. Always admired it, pestering him to let me wear it as a child. In fact, it is probably what got me into watches. It gives me such an amazing feeling to wear and I’m so proud of all that it represented to him and now to me. It’s an heirloom that will be passed down in the family over the generations and never sold.

Thanks so much for sharing this with us. The watch looks incredible and your grandad looked like a true gentleman!
Great story to go along with a great watch.
I don't have my grandfather's watch yet, it's still under the care of my uncle, although he doesn't wear it. It's a gold Omega Seamaster quartz he received for 25 years' service. It originally came on a leather band, which broke, so he put it on the bracelet you see pictured. I'm probably next in line to own it, and I would be honoured if my uncle does decide to pass it on to me.
Lovely story and beautiful watch!

I just love those vintage seamasters. This one’s great and will look awesome on a nice leather strap one day! Thanks for sharing!
