How fit is your watch?
So this morning I decided to install the free timegrapher apps !! (You can buy a proper build timegrapher online but I just wanted to try the free apps)
And read more about the DIY to regulate your phone (refer pic 1) and now I know the meaning of the “+” and “-“ 😉 .. its to tweak or fine tune the tick tock of our watch .. nice .. watchmaker called REGULATE..
Initially I folo the apps instruction to use the mic earphone to detect the ticktock but then I remembered that I have a proper RODE videomicme so I swapped it and it got better to detect the tick tock beats!
So Crunches, how do you check your watch fitness ? I always tell my young relatively fit patient to at least do an annual medical check up … would you do the same for your precious ? 😀
AND if you DIY and regulate or fine tune your watch yearly or 6 monthly based on the timegrapher readings, will you extend the service period ? Let say DIY regulate yearly so time for service maybe every after 10 years instead of 5 yrly ? SERVICE vs REGULATE ?
*from this experiment, obviously I need to send my “FOC” SKX009 to be service and regulate 🫣

I think android can 😆my old skx-never-service manage to gv that 21600 bph but the graph seems to be not constant 😒

This one with my newest watch the seiko presage , the contact point between the mic and the movement is crucial to give better reading (this is a free apps) ...
This is the best app I found. Been using it on all my watches that needed it, and git them all settled under 5sec a day. No need to spend $200 on the "real" thing!

Watch Accuracy Meter. Using the microphone on some wired earbuds held against the watch works really well. I've regulated a few watches using this app and Atomic Clock and Watch Accuracy Tool to track real life trends. Works well, I've got the ones I've done really tight.
Service and Regulate are two totally different things. Service is cleaning and oiling, and usually has a regulation done when finished, but just adjusting the regulation won't change the service interval. In fact, if you get dirt in the movement when it's open, you make it need service sooner.

Heck yeah! It's satisfying to do it yourself. Just make sure you hit the lever that adjusts timing instead of the beast error, unless you need to tweak that too. If so, do beat error first, it throws timing off a ton. And when doing the adjustments, very small changes are needed. Almost just lightly tap the lever and whisper at it. I was doing one of mine yesterday, and just wanted to tweak it about +5 seconds, but the first move I made was over +20 seconds!

Heck yeah! It's satisfying to do it yourself. Just make sure you hit the lever that adjusts timing instead of the beast error, unless you need to tweak that too. If so, do beat error first, it throws timing off a ton. And when doing the adjustments, very small changes are needed. Almost just lightly tap the lever and whisper at it. I was doing one of mine yesterday, and just wanted to tweak it about +5 seconds, but the first move I made was over +20 seconds!

For android apps, I think this one is superb and more stable constant reading !!! This Presage surpassed my vintage citizen
After a serial of try and test and adjusting the morning sounds of my kids laughters, best to check your watch in the middle of the night or cover ur device with a thick cloth / shirts, the beats will be more focus and easier for apps to get the reading …
For those who love colors, try this free android app Clock Tuner, it gives ur actual BPH reading ! My presage 21600 bph beating at 21578 bph …

That's the app I use. Works great!
I just regulated my Seiko 5 for the first time last sunday (through monday). It went from +6,5 spd, which is more than decent for a Seiko 5, to now -1 spd which is crazy.
All analogue timing and some fiddling with the thingie that... well regulates. Going from actually pushing the thingie to just tapping a few times in the proper direction was the difference from going from +5 spd to - 5 spd, to getting more precise adjustments. After getting to know how the watch reacted to my pushes/taps for more than a day that is 😀
I must admit when I tested it after the first try and it ran 2 seconds too fast in just an hour, I really did regret messing with a watch that ran a more than decent +6,5 spd. 😂
Beat error is a different story, not going to mess with that for a while. I think... 😬
Pah…service just give 'er a dash of WD40 and the movement‘s good to go for another 5 years

Tosca works well with the phones built in mic, quiet room, need to tell it were your mic is top, bottom etc.. and set the lift angle

The beat error is a bit high.
My advice is to get regulate your watch only when it’s needed and get an experienced watchmaker to do it
