What's the watch that started it all for you?

I always liked watches, I remember as a kid always having a watch on my wrist (first one was Casio, then 3 Swatches came after that), but I knew nothing about watches.

My interest started 5 years ago as I was 22, I bought this Quartz Breitling just because I liked the color of the dial, then I started researching watches, I immediately fell in love. I learned to appreciate the craftsmanship, the complexity of a watch, how a watch can tell a story. I watched hours and hours of watch related YouTube videos, now I'm totally hooked. I've been collecting watches since then.

I think my first watch was a Kahuna when I was like 5 or 7. It was a dive style watch that said it was water proof. and of course it died as soon as I got home and washed my hands

I have always liked watches, and am still trying to track down a good example of a Timex I owned in the 1970s. My obsession started about 7 years ago shortly after I retired. I decided to invest £500 in watches in the hope I could double my money. I was lucky in the fact I discovered vintage Cortebert watches being sold by East European eBay sellers. You see, at that point people were reluctant to buy from overseas buyers. I simply paid for the watches, waited until they arrived, then sold them for two or three times what I paid. Unfortunately it didn't work for very long, but long enough for me to hit my target. Along the way I would pick up the odd cheap watch for myself. Since that time my tastes have changed considerably, and I have learned all about what constitutes a good watch. On the down side I have also learned about watch snobs, and those who want to deny people pleasure from owning a homage watch because they can never hope to afford the real thing. I now have my own rather unsuccessful YouTube channel, and a very well balanced collection.

Started my journey?  Probably an Invicta pro diver.  The original is long since lost to history but it looked like this.

Tudor Black Bay ‘58. I’d liked watches before but this was my first time when I tried a watch on and something said ‘yes.’
