A UFO For Your Wrist 🛸

I don’t have many oddball watches in my collection, I have a fun Ciga skeleton, and an LED Armitron. But for the most part, it’s a pretty normal, everyday-looking group.

The funny thing is, I love all the crazy stuff from the mind of Max Büsser, particularly the Legacy Machines and the M.A.D. 1. But the chances of me getting my hands on any of those, are basically non-existent.

Not much looks like an MB&F, but this budget OBLVLO (dumb name, I know 🤦‍♂) really ticks the boxes and scratches that “spaceship on your wrist” itch! It’s certainly no complicated piece of haute horology, but it’s got the right combination of out-there design cues (i.e. that exaggerated domed sapphire crystal) and “3D” wrist presence that is just the kind of thing I love about the watches above. It’s also not an outright homage, just very clearly “inspired by”.

Not only is it approximately 0.2% of the cost of one of MB&Fs beauties, it also has the specs to be a worthwhile addition to the collection, rather than just novelty impulse purchase: stainless steel case, a reliable Miyota movement (same as in the MAD 1, funnily enough), a sapphire crystal, really very nice finishing, and some cool lume to boot!

Dimensions:

Case diameter 40.5 millimeters Case Thickness 12.5 millimeters Band width 20 millimeters

All in all, it’s not an everyday piece, but sometimes you just want to wear a watch that makes you smile. This is definitely that watch for me.

You're really on to something if your focus is on a watch that makes YOU smile. I'm frequently puzzled by "enthusiasts" that advocate for fewer choices rather than more.👍
