Q Timex Reissue 38mm

I was able to get 40% off of this already cheap watch, so I decided to try it out.  I didn’t have anything with a 12-hour rotating bezel, anything in the 38mm size, and haven’t bought a new Timex since the late 80s/early 90s.

Of the watches I own, my favorites are in the 42mm range, but I’m warming up to 40mm too.  This one is right on the edge of what I can accept I think, but I don’t think it looks too bad on me.

I love how light and thin it is, and I can get used to the friction-fit bezel, though it’s much too easily rotated. I have a Seiko SSK005 which is also a friction-fit bezel, but it takes a lot more effort to turn that.

I absolutely HATE the bracelet on this though. For anyone with even the smallest amount of hair on their arm, this thing is a torture device. It’s edges and corners on the segments are pretty sharp and numerous making for the ultimate hair-pulling apparatus. As long as I don’t move my arm, or breathe, I can’t even feel that I’m wearing a watch.

Does anyone else here have one of these? Did you swap out the bracelet? If so, what did you go with? Unless you’re a masochist, which is fine if that’s your thing, I can’t imagine you left it on this bracelet.

I have the 'Rootbeer' version and I agree, one of the main things stopping me wearing it more often is the atrocious strap, I'm about as hairy as a waxed eel and yet it still manages to find hairs to pull on a microscopic level, also, watch out for the acrylic crystal, mine started to haze up with just brushing against zips and cuffs!

I don't know if there's any aftermarket support in regards to straps, if Timex has spent an extra few pennies and given strap options or even a hardlex crystal I'd have happily paid a little more for it

I can't help with the bracelet, I have the GMT version which has a different design.

The bezel being so loose - I fixed by popping the bezel off (using a plastic spudger to avoid damage) and adding a loop of dental floss under it. It's much better now.

How do you keep the floss from bunching up when turning the bezel back and forth? I’m assuming you‘d have to tie a knot to avoid that, but then does the knot cause it to bind up?

I haven't solved that issue yet - I'm just happy to have a bezel that will stay in place.

The better long term solution would be to find a gasket with the correct dimensions but it would have to be nothing thicker than floss - even a small elastic band was too large.

I find that Timex watches tend to be overly expensive for the specs provided.

I picked mine up for $100CAD and absolutely in love with it. I’m as hairless as a sphinx so the bracelet is quite comfortable for me. The subtle green is my favourite part.
