Are leather NATO’s modifiable?

Question for the CrunchFam (especially those like me who prefer single-pass NATO’s over standard double-pass):

Are leather NATO’s modifiable into a single-pass by simply cutting off the extra piece, like you would for a regular NATO? Do you need to burn the newly cut edge to seal it? Anyone have experience to share here? Many thanks!

You can cut the leather no problem. Just be sure it's dead. No burning to seal either.

Haven't sealed any of mine, just used very sharp scissors or trauma shears.

Buenas, solo para darle una mejor terminación le podrías pasar cola de carpintería y frotarla un poco, te da una suavidad mejor al estar contra la piel, solo hace falta un buen cuter y una 📐 🤟🇺🇾

Can confirm: just cut it and you're good.

Leather edges are often processed with dyes and a buffing treatment on many leather goods. Not something you have to worry about here. But you might want to cut it on sort of an angle to blend the cut end into the other layer. Otherwise might be a little bit of a pressure point.

But leather never needs a heat seal 👍

If there's a "pressure point", then sounds like ya might be wearing it too tight! 😉

Depends how thick the leather is and how sharp you make the cut. Maybe pressure point is the wrong term.

The only issue is that the stitching holes might look bad after you cut the threads, so you’ll want to put fresh thread to fill the holes that are left.

Or just get a single pass nato from the likes of Bas & Lokes or Jones In Tokyo. I have a strap from each and they’re excellent.

Great suggestions, will check them out. Thanks!

leather can be easily cut with an Xacto blade. This year I got fed up and started making straps for resale locally. Just a strap and buckle. No holes no hardware. Two styles. Long double loop and short single pass. Here’s a look.
