I’ve worn watches my whole life with some Rolexs bought 40 years ago when an average employed guy could afford them and Seikos a Timex or two long gone. Nothing special until I recently got a little more serious about building my collection. I’m in Silicon Valley creeping up on retirement.
Up to over 20x, Moon Speedy, BB GMT (it is cheaper to buy in Switzerland), love Wise Timepieces, Couple Tissots, TAG Carrera (of course), Chris. Ward (real beauty and so well made), Spinnaker and a few other cool micro brands too (fun watches). Having fun modding.

Always like watches a lot. Had an few and a friend is a collector so I saw what is possible and that got me going on it.
Q: What was the first watch you ever owned?
First memorable was a quartz Seiko when I got my first high-tech sales job in the ‘82, then a Rolex in ‘85. Still have both and both still run fine.
Q: Do you have a watch with a particularly interesting story behind it?
Yep, about the Rolex Datejust bought on the way to the airport in HK while drunk at the end of a 3 week business trip overseas. Already told here in a previous post.
Q: What is one piece of advice you have for someone just getting into watches?
Take your time, do your research, buy what you will wear. When I started really collecting I jumped too fast and made some purchases and trades I regret.
Q: What brands have been getting your attention lately?
Nothing specific, I track some of the better micros a lot like C.Ward, Monta and the like.
Q: What is your grail watch and why?
The Speedy Moonwatch, I’m of the age where watching that happen on TV live was life changing and having the watch as an adult makes me feel like a part of it, a tiny, tiny part but a part no less.
