Not much love given to a gem
I have had this watch for some time and it has seen some decent wrist time. I picked it at Jomashop for less than a Seiko 5 GMT. However, I rarely see the Orient Star RE-AU0002S00B in reviews. This watch ticks a lot of boxes, sapphire crystal, sub 40mm case diameter, 20mm lugs. Could it be the Breguet hands that are a put off? I am still a jeans and dress watch type, but I want to know, why no love for this gem?

I suspect OrientStar simply hasn't gotten to a tipping point in enthusiasts' minds yet. My guess is that they're largely a Japanese-focused brand, and haven't done much in the way of marketing or outreach outside of Japan.
For example, Grand Seiko has been around for quite some time now. But, they didn't start selling internationally until 2010. And it wasn't until 2017 that they created a U.S.-focused subsidiary. And it feels like ever since they made that move, GS has really begun to capture mindshare.
I'd be happy with it in my collection. Nice waffle texture, railtrack around the edge and a nicely executed power reserve. I think the negatives to the great unwashed would be the handset and the Roman numerals, and perhaps the monochromatic colour choice. But what do they know?!

Ditto. With the abundance of watches, the focus will go on a limited number of them and the hype will focus on these. I love looking for hidden gems, it feels so rewarding. 😊

I think you've missed the most obvious: roman numerals. They aren't hugely popular.
Jomashop has great prices on a ton of Orient Star models. I really hate giving them my money though, but sometimes their prices are absurdly good. If I have the option though I'd buy from Watchmaxx over Joma.
Actually saying 350 dollars for a watch like this orient star is a great offer but I feel paying $520 for the alpinist from seiko having way more features and also carrying elegance but a great start for a watch I am wearing a rangeman gshock I feel that is the best purchase in my opinion
The waffle texture looks like a Tissot Le Locle, but that's a damn fine watch for the price.
