You Made Me Love You (I didn't want to do it)

I remember when Casios came out, and I remember thinking they were the ugliest things that had ever existed.

Fast forward to six or so years ago when I fell down the watch-hole, and saw how beloved they were in the watch community....and I thought they were the ugliest things that had ever existed.

I was never going to sully my wrist with such a thing.

After I broke my leg riding this last October, I changed out all the things associated with my accident. Some of this is just good practice--helmet, any tack that gets damaged-- and some of this is just distaste at having anything from that day back on my body.

Since I had destroyed my poor Seagull by trying to make it a barn watch, I had bought a black and white Swatch to time training sessions, and I hated it--it was completely illegible and annoyed me every time I looked down. Wearing it the day I flew off, it somehow unfortunately made it through the many bounces on the ground, the gauntlet of several ambulance trips and two hospitals, and the cutting off of and bagging up of my clothes. It got discharged with me, and came home to hang uselessly and forlornly on a hook outside until I could get back on the ol' horse (the actual horse, who IS old and also very sorry that he took off at 30 mph while I was literally napping in the saddle).

And I just couldn't bring myself to put it back on. So, after years of being schooled by the watchfam, I bought this:

THE ONE, THE ONLY, THE CLASSIC...F-91W...and I LOVE IT SO FREAKING MUCH. No need here to recount its too many virtues that I denied for so long. It's perfect, and I have to leave it at the barn bc otherwise I might never wear anything else. It's also, might I just say, adorable on my tiny wrist, and I can't stop looking at it as if it were a (insert your dearest Grail here). It truly brings that special watch-smile to my lips.

Consider me converted. G-Shock next.

Yup, never know what's gonna grab our fancy in this hobby.

We try to be rational with WR this & QC that; practicality this & usefulness that; but when the feeling hits, no rationality will stand up to it.

Cheers & enjoy!

Man glad to hear that you are still with us!

Also psst you can actually but TWO F91W for peanuts anyway, have you ever considered that? XDDDD

Great post. I have a similar story with dress watches. I remember unboxing my Seiko 5 that I waited months for, just for it to be a lot smaller than I expected. Granted, the smallest watch I owned was a 42mm Casio Edifice, so it took some adjustment. Now, my collection has a lot of 34mm vintage watches, which I like a lot.

Tastes change, out emotions like to spite us like that. Wishing you a speedy recovery!
