My first (informed) watch purchase

This LE Orient Kamasu was the first watch I ever researched before buying. Of course, prior to this I purchased watches, like G shocks and Fossils, but they were purchases based just on looks or price. This one specifically i remember watching a comparison video by Teddy comparing entry level divers from Orient, Seiko & Citizen. I went Orient because it had the best wearing dimensions and had Sapphire.

It's kinda surprising that a decision i made early on in the journey, still fits into the collection today.

What was your first informed watch purchase? And is it still part of your rotation today?

Probably my Seiko Samurai. I have since had it modded with some upgrades:

NICE! I've not seen a Kamasu with gilded accents like yours before ... awesome lookin' watch!

I have an older version pepsi bezel Mako II ... only mineral glass for crystal; which is scratched to shit! LOL!

Maybe I should replace it with a double-domed sapphire? Hmmmm ... project in the near future?!

Hey, from the background of your posted photo, looks like you're in the Engineering or Construction field too?

I own a Kamasu as well and a Bambino, so good choice too go for Orient, I would say.

My first „informed“ watch purchase was the Citizen Nighthawk, i.e. not an automatic watch. I bought because I saw TGV‘s videos about the Flightmaster. Since this watch was discontinued at this time, it was not easy to get it, at least in Europe, and prices were going up. So, I looked for alternatives and the Nighthawk came up. Lucky enough, I bought it for a good price at Jomashop and got the US version with some minimal differences to the European model. And yes, it is still in the rotation.

I like the mix of indices and numerals on the Mako, but sapphire crystal is a must, especially for a diver.

I love the look of these things. Only if I can get a colorway I like, I would probably have one also.

I only know about a blue version.

It‘s an incredible busy dial but this is what I like. And I have never spent time to learn how to use the inner-rotating bezel to calculate things 🤣

My first informed watch purchase was the SNK361.

I paid a little over $80 for it a few years back and it was a great value-for-money watch at that time, before the arrival of Chinese-made watches with killer specs for half the price these days.

I eventually fell out of love with the bland "Datejust" design of the dial and it stayed in the watch drawer for a couple of years.

Until I realized I loved the case proportions too much to let the entire watch go to waste and decided to mod it. After experimenting with a few different dial colors and handsets, I'm happy with this "homemade baby-KS" for now.

The Kamasu is a solid buy. Very good specs for the price and a good looking watch.
