Dutch, tall, not particularly interested in premium or luxury brands but rather focused on microbrands and Weird stuff. That's "Weird" with a capital W for all of you who weren't paying attention.
As a kid, I often find myself looking at watches in the jeweler's window. Most of the time, I had a watch when I was growing up but I didn't really become interested until a few years ago when I read an article about watches- more specifically about the G-Shock range (as I'd just bought one). Then I found out that people actually write articles and make videos and podcasts about b watches. That there are forums about watches. That there is a community of people who love watches.
I was sold.
Q: What was the first watch you ever owned?
The first one I can remember was a plastic Transformer watch, with a cheap LCD display. It could transform into a robot. It was somewhere in the mid-eighties, I was eight or nine and I thought it was the coolest thing ever.
Q: Do you have a watch with a particularly interesting story behind it?
I inherited my dad's radio controlled Casio when he sadly passed away. It is not the best looking or most worn watch in my collection but it's the only one I'll never get rid of.
Q: What is one piece of advice you have for someone just getting into watches?
Follow your heart. Don't listen to self-proclaimed "experts" who try to convince you that "Everybody needs a Speedmaster" or "your collection is not complete without a diver or dresswatch". Remember, YOU are the one who will wear the watch. YOU are the one who will buy the watch. Make sure you buy the stuff YOU like instead of checking off the boxes on someone else's list.
Also, don't buy stuff you can't really afford. Don't spend money you can't afford to lose, and never go into debt for a watch.
Q: What brands have been getting your attention lately?
Phoibos, Zelos, Longines and Timex have really been crushing it lately.
Q: What is your grail watch and why?
If I were to stumble upon a giant pile of money I would buy Christiaan van der Klaauw Real Moon Joure and it's not even close.
