Winter Is Coming

Today we changed the clocks here in the U.K. to winter time, already the sun is setting just after 4pm. It’s now the season for chilly walks with the Barbour hat and coat, muck boots, my pack of spaniels and a Timex Expedition with indiglo….. fields need a field watch 👍🏻

Nice Timex. Enjoy the season.

We in the states still have another week to go because the idiots in our government do not understand equinoxes nor when seasons change.

Hi Doug do all US states adopt the same time change?

Hi Doug do all US states adopt the same time change?

States either have the change or do not. Only two states do not change time, Arizona and Hawaii. All the others do and Congress sets the dates for Daylight Saving Time every year. For years it was the Sunday closest to the Vernal and Autumnal Equinoxes. Now it changes year to year on a whim.

I am sensing that is a source of irritation for you Doug does that have implications or does it just piss you off in general 😂

I'm in the UK too and I love this time of year. I also love the time piece 😄

I feel for this lady, although being curator of this museum would make up for the PITA it would be to change all these clocks..

As someone likes things orderly, I would love it if the states just all stayed on standard time but since most play the time change game, at least have the change occur near the equinoxes, not at some random date.

Thanks Mark it’s an inexpensive watch but very easy to wear you forget you have it on it’s that light and the indiglo is fantastic, I like the orange second against the green dial too. £29 from Argos it help scratch the field watch itch, helped me to see if I liked Field watches and paved the way for more expensive Field watch purchases that followed 👍🏻

I get you Doug do you think think the time change still has a place in the modern world?

Not really. It never really did. Time zones do, due to the Earth's rotation, but Summer and Winter or Daylight Saving and Standard Time could be done away with. Just adopt UTC with corrections for each time zone. Adjust business hours as necessary.

Wasn’t it introduced in 1908 to increase agricultural efficiency? Which I don’t think relevant now….. I think the US were the first to introduce DST so interesting to hear your comments I didn’t realise 👍🏻

The same could be accomplished by just getting up an hour earlier. It is silly to keep flipping the clocks forward and back.
