Any recent watch purchases that exceeded your expectations or fell short?

Over the past 12 months, were there any watch purchases that exceeded your expectations or fell short.

For me, the Tourby Lawless 40 exceeded my expectations. I had high expectations before buying based on my research. The blue dial is the star of the show. The fit, finish, movement and comfort is awesome. This watch is a keeper.

On the other hand, I purchased a Venezianico Nereide 39 in blue. The pictures and details on the website don't translate very well when it's on your wrist. It just falls short of what I expected..maybe its just the overall execution. It's not a bad watch..it just doesn't work for me.

Got this 5610 for Christmas and I’ve worn it way more than I thought I would. Exceeds expectations!

Same here with Tissot PRX.

Felt underwhelming..

Can't complain as it is a gift from the Wifey 😅

Exceeded: Imperial RoyalGuard 200. Owner nailed the design elements. Brushed aluminum bezel, with just the right amount of faded color, dial and handset are sweet, and the brugundy-ish color is just perfect. Also love how it falls back/homages the relatively lesser known Eberhard Scafograph.

Fell Short:

Skmei PO Amazon abomination. Bought it specifically for @casiodean 's Haunted Scavenger Hunt. And honestly even at the sale price of $15US, one of the digitals or a Wally World Armitron Special would have been better. Strap was horrible, second hand got stuck after 1 day, bezel was plastic, etc. Pretty harsh for $15 but again, if I only had $15 I'd go with an Armitron and call it good. (Thankfully I smashed it with a hammer to exorcise the bad ghost 😂 IFYKYK)

Full disclosure, I never recommended that particular Skmei. All the analogue models are too big compared to what they are supposed to homage, and well, they have too many QC problems. The digitals are mostly great though.

Sorry to hear about the Venezianico… I got the Redentore Ultra Black a few months ago and was thoroughly impressed with that model at least. My only gripe with the brand is with their straps and bracelets. The leather strap it came with wasn’t great and the free metal bracelet they threw in was great but tough to get a good fit after adjustment. It’s one of those where taking out an extra link would make it too tight but it sits loose otherwise.

My Lawless 40 says hi. Have this watch since 2018 and it's a keeper.

This piece has completely exceeded my expectations……….

Yep I know it’s a homage but most pieces are!

LL Bean Casco Bay Field Watch in 40mm with tritium tubes. Sadly, I think I have become a mechanical snob. The watch was light, rugged and practical, with a sail cloth strap and a leather strap, and that lume was fantastic, but I just could not get over the ticking motion and ended up selling it.

I’m sorry to hear especially given the fact that I live in Maine

Yes. A 1986 Rolex Two Tone Oysterquartz. Not my cup of tea. 36mm will not cut it for me. At least 41mm. Beautiful watch, classic but did not connect with me. Sold it immediately on Chrono24.
