What watch did you buy for graduating to or from something?

My Maternal Grandfather worked for the Union Pacific Railroad for over 40 years. Early in his career, he shoveled coal into the great furnaces of the 500 short ton Big Boy Locomotives. Later, he ran passenger trains in slick diesel-electrics throughout the Mountain West.

The time in history when I knew him best was in the 70’s when he was ready to retire. We’d go visit him and my Grandma where they lived in Rawlins, WY. My most vivid memories of him were his trademark overalls, well-worn pocket knife…and gold tone railroad watch with an expansion bracelet.

To celebrate my Grandpa and his legacy, and that I have now graduated to about the age he was at in my memories, I took the plunge with my very own Speidel Railroad Watch with the patented Twist-O-Flex bracelet! Now, whenever I hear the far-off whistle of a locomotive thundering down some far-off track…I can proudly wear my new Speidel!

Which watch did you treat yourself to due to your own graduation from…or into something important in your life?

The Big Boy, huh? That’s some serious railroad history! Designed to take hauls up from Ogden Utah into WY, the steepest section of track in the country! Very, very cool!

The greatest locomotive ever in my opinion. They built fewer than 50 of them.
