Watch makers

Hi everybody,

I am looking at getting into watch repairing and I am wondering if anybody can recommend me the best books/videos.

I have already started but just the usual change of batteries/links abit of maintenance ect.

Also on how watches are made and manufactured? having a little read about it seem watch making is becoming abit of a dying art I would love to know where the future of watch making is going.

cheers

Dan

Student from a watchmaking school here! 👋 I think watchmaking is actually more alive now than it’s been in the last few decades. I feel like the perceived “dying” of the art is due to new watchmaking student being unwilling to apply for teaching positions and who can blame them when their skill and passion is wanted by literally every big name out there. Also many watchmaking schools are already at full capacity, for example ours gets around 200 applicants a year but can only accept 30 of them due to capacity and monetary limitations.

Hope this helps! Cheers!

Thanks so much for this! I appreciate the response. I would love to ask a few more questions about it if you don’t mind me dropping you a message?

If I'm able to retire with a good monthly income, it's something I'd like to learn. My eyes may be the limiting factor. Don't know if they'd make loupes powerful enough to allow me to do it. 😀
