I got into smart watches several years ago when the job I had demanded constant availability. It was years in hell. After burning out I promised myself that I was never going to let work take over my life again, and part of that was not being so available anymore. My gift to myself after leaving that job was a Casio G-Shock GW7900. It was my first regular watch, and I haven't stopped collecting since then.
Q: What was the first watch you ever owned?
Casio G-Shock GW7900.
Q: Do you have a watch with a particularly interesting story behind it?
My Casio G-Shock GW7900. I bought it for myself after leaving a job of 20+ years that almost finally killed me. it was a promise to myself that my time would be my own again.
Q: What is one piece of advice you have for someone just getting into watches?
Don't write off anything. Your taste will evolve. Consider all the really cool stuff coming out of China.
Q: What brands have been getting your attention lately?
Casio, always. Steeldive. Pagani Designs. Timex. I got my first Invicta, which is interesting.
Q: What is your grail watch and why?
I actually managed to get one of them; the G-shock GWM5610b1JF. There are certain color palettes I'm obsessed with, and black and neon green is one of them.
Otherwise, I buy a lot of Chinese homage watches. I'd love to own a legit Seiko Captain Willard someday. Maybe I will, maybe I will.
