Better than Polywatch(Polishing my Spaceview)

I have tried this stuff and I have found it works way better than Polywatch. I have a lust for 1970s watches and consequently I live in a sea of acrylic crystals. I got a free sample of this from the paint department at my local auto parts place, and it’s amazing! It will clear up the worst acrylic crystals like you would not believe with no more than an old cotton sock. Its also good for light metal polishing. It keeps my pocket watch shiny. (I just had an awful thought, somewhere right now there is an idiot demagnetizing an Accutron….)

I turned my watch guy onto it he was skeptical until I showed him. he asked, does it have luster? And I showed him oh yes it has quite a great deal of luster! So far I’ve only found one thing it wouldn’t touch and it was a pretty deep divot. A light dose on the back of my1908 Illinois watch Company pocket watch. Although whenever I do anything with nickel it turns my hands black.

You used the right crystal and hands! So many people don’t do that! It looks so much better that way. I noticed yours is electronically slightly different I wonder if it’s an earlier movement than mine?

It’s a 1966 and from my research I think it was contemporaneously converted to a Spaceview. Still doing a bit of research on it. Can’t believe how accurate it is - brilliant for nearly 60 years old.

I have a few pocket watches too so will come in v handy.

This is what I see in your case back.😅 Thanks for the tip. Probably doesn't work on Hardlex or mineral glass.

I’ve had a little effect with it muting scratches just slightly but it takes a lot of rubbing. That’s the magic of the iPhone 13

Mine is a 1970 it’s also converted most are. Pretty much any one that doesn’t have a chapter ring is going to be a convert. But they did a lot of jewelry store conversions in the 60s. And that’s the style of crystal and hands they used in the display models. If you ever spot a real early jewelry store conversion you’ll know it because the hour markers will have a little dot of lume in each one. More like this. As the original ones were literally the Jewelers Display models. But I can count the number of those crystals I’ve seen on one hand and I’ve never owned one.

Oh I see, it looks like yours is still using a germanium transistor. They switched over in the late 60s very probably because Germainium transistors were on the way out.

It’s a huge bottle supposedly there are smaller bottles. I get my car parts guy to just fill up a little hand lotion bottle for me out of the paint room stock every couple of years, it lasts forever. One bottle like that will last you the rest of your life it’s huge. Remember the guys who use this are painting whole cars!

Looks like there’s a business opportunity decanting this into smaller bottles … 😉

I have the worst time getting anybody to try it I basically had to leave my bottle with my watch guy before he would believe me. But everybody here knows my watch collection is a big pile of mostly crap. And I have saved some crystals that nobody thought were saveable with this stuff.

It’s a fine rubbing compound used in painting cars?

I've always wondered if I could use car polish to do the same job. I would assume so. Mostly a finishing compound finest grit the finest grit. Because let's be honnest, Poly-Watch didn't invent anything.

The list of finishing compounds is way too long to write here but...

Chemical Guys VSS is a good one for no too much money and then, you can use it on you car to remove light scratches! It will remove 95% of surface scratches.

If you have the funds and want some extra flex, Sonax Perfect finish is your ticket. But it's pricy at 24.99 USD for a 250ml container.

I did my car with the Perfect Finish. I strongly recomend! But I have no experience with it on a watch crystal.

Well on acrylic And plastic watch crystals I have used this stuff a great deal and it’s incredible. It’s practically miraculous.
