Casio G-Shock GBD-200 "Midnight Runner"

Well, this is my new G-Shock GBD-200. It's the limited edition "Midnight Runner".

I've been wanting a MiP display G-Shock for a while and got to see model hands on at a work conference last year. That was the white model but I learned it fit my wrist and the screen was awesome.

So, this one has green accents on a black case and.... Luminous lug/bracelet adapters.

It is technically a smart watch as it can connect to your phone via Bluetooth and give you notifications while tracking steps and exercise. Once I used my phone to sync the time.... I immediately put it in airplane mode 😂

Anyway, the MiP negative display is really cool. It actually relies on ambient light more than a positive TFT LCD display but once light hits it the numerals light up like crazy. It has all of the standard G-Shock features on addition to a step tracker.

The light up button is on a great spot and is just for the display light, which is great.

The luminous case elements are cool and not overwhelming. It's very "1990s" to me. Also, the BAND lights up too although it's pretty faint. It is supposed to be a city skyline at night.

My ONE quibble with this watch is that it's battery powered, not solar powered. The battery is estimated to last 2 years although that's with the smart functions being used daily. Without those on use 2.5 to 3 years per battery seems easy.

Anyway, if you want a slightly different G-Shock, give the GBD-200 series a look.
