My Comedic Odyssey to Overcoming Watch Collection Addiction

Wristwatch collecting, initially a quirky hobby, escalated into a full-blown addiction for me. What began as a harmless pastime turned into a comedy of errors fueled by an insatiable urge for the perfect watch. In this article, I'll take you on my hilarious journey to conquer my watch collection addiction.

**The Zany Allure of Watch Collection Addiction**

1. **The Quest for Perfection:** My story begins with a single watch, innocently enough. But soon, I was on a quest for the Holy Grail of timepieces. Picture this: me, on a wild goose chase for the watch that would make all other watches jealous.

2. **Status and Social Validation:** Luxury watches, oh, the allure! I admit, I fell for it. My addiction had me thinking that owning a watch with more gears than a spaceship somehow elevated my social status. Spoiler alert: it didn't.

3. **Variety and Rarity:** The watch world is like a treasure hunt on steroids. I was hooked on finding the rarest, most unique pieces out there. I'd sneak around like a watch detective, hunting for my next horological gem.

**Conquering My Comedic Watch Collection Addiction**

1. **Awkward Self-awareness:** The first step in my wacky journey to recovery was realizing I had a problem. Picture me in front of a mirror, practicing my "I'm addicted to watches" speech – it was awkward, but necessary.

2. **Setting Limits, Not Like a Circus Ringmaster:** I knew I needed to stop the madness. So, I set boundaries, like a strict referee at a surreal sporting event. There was a budget, a maximum watch count, and a solemn promise not to exceed it.

3. **Financial Shenanigans:** Instead of throwing money at watches, I decided to invest in things that didn't tick. I started saving for sensible things, like a trip to the moon or a lifetime supply of pizza (now that's a real investment).

4. **Support from My Wacky Crew:** I turned to my wife who, bless her heart, had put up with my watch-related shenanigans for far too long. She became my watch rehab support group, complete with intervention-style interventions.

5. **Watch Comedy Nights:** To rediscover the joy in my existing collection, I started hosting "Watch Comedy Nights." I'd invite friends over, and we'd crack jokes about the quirks and features of each watch. Laughter is the best watch medicine.

6. **Watchful Mindfulness:** Whenever the urge to splurge on a new watch struck, I'd practice mindfulness. I'd imagine the watch whispering sweet nothings to me, and then I'd snap back to reality, realizing it was just a watch and not my soulmate.

In conclusion, my journey to overcome watch collection addiction was a hilarious ride filled with quirky characters and bizarre plot twists. I've learned that a collection should bring joy and amusement, not financial chaos or a comedy of errors. If you find yourself on a similar watch-themed sitcom, remember that laughter is the best cure, and you can always write your own comedy script to conquer the addiction.

There's no need to take what I just wrote too seriously or to heart. I'm laughing at my own personal experience, with no judgment towards anyone. And just so you know, I'm still very much a watch enthusiast in recovery 🤦🏻‍♂️

For me, this is not true. I recently purchased a Rolex Daytona and then this happened, walking by the university:

Great stuff here. My favorites - lifetime supply of pizza, and "surreal sporting event" which is in fact a pretty good working definition of watch collecting.

I think the only downside to watch collecting is that there is no downside, and in 2023 I don't know how to navigate that.

Thank you 🙏🏻. Working on that myself 💪🏻
