CITIZEN SILVER LEAF LACQUER DIAL REF. NB1060-12L
Stumbling upon this timepiece with assistance from a fellow cruncher, the allure of The Citizen Silver Leaf Lacquer NB1060-12L struck me instantly. It began reshaping my views on Citizen watches.
It's worth noting that, although not a limited edition, the Citizen Silver Leaf Lacquer NB1060-12L is a JDM model exclusively available in Japan.
The outstanding feature is its deep, mossy green dial with a fume style, transitioning from a brighter center to a black edge, a style popularized by H Moser and Cie. Unlike a Moser dial, though, the Citizen's dial feels very organic, boasting a textured surface that shines and shimmers when hit by light at different angles. Beyond its time-telling function, this watch demands attention, particularly in the right light.
The dial's simplicity is enhanced by refined elements: baton-style indices, dauphine-style hands, and a framed date window at 3 o'clock. The slim indices boast chamfered edges for a three-dimensional effect. While not reaching Grand Seiko's level, they are well-crafted. The watch's wearability is a plus, with a 38.2mm case diameter, 12mm thickness, and 46.5mm lug-to-lug, wearing closer to a 39mm watch. The case, featuring Duratec hard coating for scratch resistance, is covered by a double-domed sapphire crystal with an anti-reflective coating. While not suitable for swimming, the 100m water resistance is a nice bonus. The 19mm lug width, while not ideal, is manageable.
Powering the watch is the in-house Citizen/Miyota caliber 9011, an automatic movement with a 4Hz beat rate, 42h power reserve, hacking seconds, quick-set date, and an accuracy of -10/+20 seconds/day. The movement, adorned with simple striping and a skeletonized rotor, surpasses the aesthetics of comparable Seiko 6R35s.
