I love nothing more then a good barn find. A watch you find when you're not necessarily looking for a specific watch (I always have my eye out for watches though) in an unexpected place. Whether it be a thrift store, yard sale or an actual barn. Nothing beats finding a jem out in the dust of the real world and not on the internet.
I found this little 1970 Solar (brand name, it is not light powered) at a pop up consignment store near were I live for cheap. The store is not there anymore, don't think it lasted a year.
It was so beat up I could barely see the dial. But after a service and new crystal it looked amazing. The dial has a interesting split gray dial with red markers. It has an engraving on the back that reads "Grad 1970 love mom".
Solar was the in store brand of Eaton a Canadian department store that is no longer around.

Very cool
Awesome find!
I too always stop in pawn shops and the like and look at what watches are available. It paid off big time. I found this vintage Nivada Antarctic Spider for the equivalent of 5 USD. It was rough and needed a service and new crystal, but once that was done, it came together beautifully.
It looked worse than this when I got it. It was on a horrendous rubber strap that was 6mm too small. This is how it looks now:
Picked up this 1972 Bulova Accuquartz at a local antique store. W just went in to look around, and so of course I was looking for watches. Got it for dirt cheap, probably worth 10x what I paid. But figured out the right replacement battery, and it fired right is with an almost perfectly smooth sweep to the seconds hand. And from what I've read, that is a real diamond there at the 9. Thankfully the clasp has a lot of microadjustment holes and I'm able to make it for easily, because finding new links for that crazy bracelet, I don't even want to think about it!

Love that dial and the strange case. You don't see the accuquartz watches that often.

Before I found this one, I didn't even know it was a thing. And the case is so odd, I didn't even realize what was odd about it until the second day of wearing it, lol!
