Omega Dynamic? No.. Ken Leaney!?

Found this watch for $20 Cad at my local thrift shop. Thought it was an Omega dynamic from the early 70s at first glance. The crystal was scratched and cracked.

Turns out it's designed to look like an Omega dynamic. It was a very popular watch in the late 60s and early 70s so it makes sense they tryed to make it look like one.

From what I found, it was a jewelry store brand in Langley B.C. Canada. It was in business from around 1966 to 1989. The owner Ken Leaney passed away in 2016.

It has a good ETA 2772 movement with nice finishing. This movement was made from 1969 to 1982. Looks like it was only serviced once. So with a new crystal, a good service and a light polish it came out very nice.

Not bad for 20 bucks.

Happy hunting out there.

Great score - and at the right price!

It'd be interesting to know who manufacturered the watch for the retailer.

Certina made the Revelation:

(I thought this was a bargain - but it wasn't $20! - unfortunately).

Tissot also made a version that shared many components with the Omega Dynamic (as was the arrangement at the time). A number of lesser known brands also made watches in the style - but they're mostly 'heavily inspired by' designs that differ from the Omega / Tissot / Certina variants.

If you are able to research what brands Ken Leaney sold you may get an idea of who actually made it? For instance Certina rebranded watches for the Portuguese market in that era (under the Hertig brand) and they were licenced through a jewellery chain from memory. They sometimes used ETA movements going into the 70's too, so not a bad place to start. #vintagecertinas.com might be able to help (if you're interested).

Congrats. I reckon it's a really cool, really interesting find.

Ya I'm not sure what factory they had make the watch. There is no manufacturer markings on the case but it's definitely all Swiss made. There was definitely no shortage of suppliers back then.

BTW - Isn't the case shape über comfortable on the wrist - Omega certainly achieved their goal with the design. I haven't worn the Revelation for ages … you've inspired me to rectify that tomorrow.

Enjoy the new watch.
