The great silicone debacle

I like wearing my CIGADesign Z Titanium during weekends. The skeleton work done on the movement is interesting enough to keep me interested without being bothered by inconsequential issues such as size, legibility, or reading the time.

But it's not all fun and sunshine because the last time I wore the Z it ended with me having an itchy wrist for two days and wrist rash isn't pleasant. The culprit was the extra large 22mm silicone strap that created an hermetic seal over my wrist and let the sweat accumulate under it. The white residue on the strap underside is the direct result of a single day of sweat and Today is going to get hot. Humidity isn't expected to rise above 50% but +36°C is hot.

Wrapping the silicone band over my wrist is going to end in a unpleasant experience which I'd rather do without. In conclusion, silicone straps don't go well with my wrist during hot summer days.

But maybe I can solve this problem through the magic of quick release spring bars and canvass?

The 22mm grey canvas from Barton was literally a snap to install and doesn't look bad at all. It's a more breathable material than silicone, it also has plenty of large holes punched through that should let air circulate.

Tope side the fit to the case and the color seems to be a good match to the case. It even looks like it improved the legibility of the dial. If it did then it means that the Barton canvass strap is truly magical.

Well...not really, it didn't. A quick wrist check confirmed that nothing really changed on the legibility front. It also didn't make the watch any smaller as it's still one huge slab covered with an equally huge and glittery sapphire tile.

The strap is brand new and still stiff, but that should sort itself out in a day or two. Stiffness aside it feels more "airy" and I'm hopeful that this will result in a wrist free from redness and itchiness.

I'm shallow and easily distracted by shinny thing, I'm afraid I'll need more than that.

Thank you. So far it's also holding its own very nicely and my wrist isn't as sweaty as it was with the silicone strap.
