Lets keep this simple, shall we?

When I think about a simple and dependable watch what come to my mind is the Seiko SGG731 and not any of my Explorer lookalike such as the Smiths Everest or even the Lorier Safari. And yet, the SGG isn’t really a simple watch because it does have a day date complication and it’s not really comparable to any of the previously mentioned watches because it doesn’t have a 369 dial and it’s not even a mechanical watch.

It’s my perfect office day watch because it there to tell me the time and it doesn’t distract me by its presence. It’s a watch. No, it’s not a GADA or whatever other nonsensical acronym is going to be thrown around. It’s not intended to go anywhere and I don’t intend to do everything with it. It’s a watch. It tells the time – end of story.

And it also not going to distract me by being temperamental. The quartz movement inside has proved itself to be accurate, robust and free of troubles. Which is exactly what I want from a watch.

It’s also (very well) made of Titanium. Yes, I know. Some of us don’t like titanium because whatever. I do like it because titanium isn’t flashy looking, and because I happen to like grey.

The thing is that I never went out to look specifically for this watch. What happened is that an older Citizen died, which sent me to look for for something similar, and the it just seemed to fit the bill. It was only later that I realized what a tremendous good deal the SGG731 really was.

It’s light, it’s small, it’s robust and not flashy. It’s a watch. I like it.

Yes, it’s a nice one. I have a titanium. It’s my biggest next to my big plastic Swatch but since it’s titanium it’s not too heavy on the wrist.

Looks really nice. I have been eyeing a simple titanium watch for some time and this definitely sounds like an option. Thanks for sharing.

To be fair, some of the remarks about being surprised by the lack of weight and requiring a period of adjustment are valid to some extent. Titanium bezels on dive watches are also feeling a bit weird.

However, I'm completely at loss to explain how there are some who equate a light watch to a cheap one.

The SGG is really a great watch, it does everything it's supposed to do without poking you in the eye with a finger to catch your attention.

After reading your post I reluctantly opened my notes app and put on 'the list' I hope I don't forget about it¯\_(ツ)_/¯
