Do you also like fancy desk divers? Because I sure do.

I own two fancy desk divers which will never be immersed deeper than a kitchen sink. The first is the repurposed almost but not quite 62MAS SPB147, and the second is this one: the bronze Yema Superman with its sapphire Bordeaux red bezel insert and applied gilt dial.

Sure, both can still be used as diver's but why? I'm not diving anymore, and if I still did I would not be using a watch for my dives. However, I can still wear them and enjoy their 60's esthetic. Vintage and mid to late 20th century retro has a great appeal for me and I don't see a reason why I should deprive myself.

The Yema is a pretty watch. The fact that it's also rated to 300m WR has no influence on how I look at it, because to be honest - diver's are not my favorite type of watches. However the larger size of diver's also free the designers to experiment without cramming the dial with too much details and in the case of the Superman I think that they hit the nail straight on the head. It's a nice balance of elegance and purpose, it's distinctive without being gaudy. It's mine, my pretty.

And this is the paradox that I have to live with: I don't like diver's but being shallow and easily distracted by shinny thing, I do like pretty things such as fancy looking desk divers.

Maybe I'm just over-analyzing it (as usual) because there are plenty of fancy desk divers that I don't like (e.g. BB58). So perhaps it's just that there is "something" about the Superman that drew me in and this "something" couldn't be found in other watches.

Does it matter? Probably not. What does matter is that I'm going to wear this little bronze marvel for the whole day and that I'm pretty much pleased with myself for taking this decision.

Love a retro diver myself & have zero interest in diving - being wet and cold doesn't appeal to me in the slightest!

I like dressy retro divers because of the robust build quality, large easy to read dials, general olde worlde aesthetics and larger case sizes.

That Superman sure is a looker. What a great summer watch, with that water resistance it can easily handle any summer activity you may end up doing.
