I was not yet born in the 50's but this is not going to stop me from wearing a 50's inspired watch.
A few years ago AMWG (Asia Mechanical Watches Group) collaborated with Mathey-Tissot to recreate the 5500 Explorer which was based on the 34mm Air King and was sold by Rolex during the late 50's to late 60's. The collaboration resulted in the Mathey-Tissot MT369 and was sold through the AMWG online shop. The initial production run was sold out in a blink and prompted the production of a second edition, which featured this time fautina makeup. Mine is from the first production run and is therefore free from artificial aging.
I was not looking to buy an Explorer homage but what caught my eyes were the diminutive size of 34.5mm diameter, the distinctive flaring bezel, and the clean printed layout which later made me appreciate a bling free 369 dial.
Being based on the shape of the 5500 case, the MT369 is not a homage to a modern or even an old 1016 Explorer and the wrist experience is also very different. It's also not an exact copy of a 60 years old 5500 explorer, but since these are now very rare and sells at astronomical prices the MT369 on my wrist will do the job of making me long for simpler times when the only major problem we had was the possibility of being annihilated in a nuclear Armageddon.
I'm a big fan of watches that are interesting because they are either unique, have interesting features, well designed or simply offer a great value for their price.
thats a beauty sir. whats the movement inside this beauty?

It's a Peseux MT224 and that's about all that I know about it. If you are interested I wrote a review of this watch here: You got me at 34.5mm.
