Where is the best place to sell watches?

I like purchasing different watches and trying them on to see how well they fit and to see if I still like them as much as when I originally saw them. I then will either keep it or flip it. I do not have access to all of the watch shops of the brands I like and a lot of micro-brands, the only way to see those watches is to have a friend who has one or purchase it. The trouble is in re-selling the watch to regain the funds to continue purchasing another watch on my list. Where do you sell your watches at? How is the experience? Finally, any advice on selling watches you are willing to share with your fellow Crunchers?

I do not have any advice as I have found it to be an arduous process to resell watches. The best luck I have had was via EBay. But the fees are a lot. Chrono24 isn’t bad either with lesser fees. If you find anything better let me know

Most people suggest eBay and Chrono24, like @Rugger227 said.

There’s also r/watchexchange.

Watchexchange on Reddit is great but do your research on sellers before buying. Chrono24 is more secure but also more expensive to buy and they charge 6.5% to sell. I don’t have much experience on eBay.

I've always heard good things about Reddit but it appears the learning curve to properly do so is steep. Plus until you earn a reputation it's more difficult.

Full disclosure: I haven’t used it myself yet. I’m planning on trying it soon. I have a few I’d like to sell. But yes, research the seller!

Ebay. Biggest reach = more likelihood of sale / profit. Worth the fees imo.

Thank you and Kalaota for your response/suggestions. Those are the places that I use to sell. I guess I was just hoping for a place where enthusiast can sell/trade/buy from each other. I guess Chroni24 is the closest to something line that.

I see people ask this question here fairly often. I wish we had a buy/sell section on WC. That’d be nifty.

I agree. Most of us are not trying to make a profit. We just want to experience the different watches and make informed decisions as to what we like.

One thing I believe holds true for watches and cars is that they drop at least 50% of their value as soon as they’re off the shop floor, and that unfortunately is even worse with microbrands which I also prefer. One idea is possibly to buy the watch second hand as then it might hold it’s value better.

I generally sell on Chrono24, but there are a lot of watches there, so I wouldn’t recommend it unless you’re okay taking the loss. You could also try exchanging unwanted watches for a new one. Several AD’s are very open to that. My favourite ADs Serious Watches based in the Netherlands, and Sekvens here in Sweden specialise in micros and are open to exchanges.

Curious, what are you all looking to sell?

On Oak & Oscar GMT, Steinhart Ocean One 39, Geckota K01 Flieger, and a Swiss Watch Company MK1 Diver. As you can see my taste run all over the place.

For some mid-range (Hamilton, Tissots, Raymond Weil, etc.) and higher end pieces I would also recommend to check out Watchfinder&Co. Probably one of the biggest pre-owned dealers out there. I bought from them, but you can also submit a request for quote for your watch. You can either sell (just get money for watch) or trade in (like trade in Hamilton, pay 1000$ and get Longines)

I completely understand that if I purchase a new watch, I will take a rather large loss on the re-sell. I am talking about watches that you purchase used/second-hand. I think you should be able to flip them at a reasonable price and get/try another watch.
