Selling Watches

I sell watches fairly frequently. I sell them to fund new watch purchases. I do not make any money on the sales, I do it to purchase other watches that I normally would not get the chance to experience. If I do not fall in Love with it, I move it on and look for the next watch. All that being said, the selling experience can be frustrating. Mostly I am talking about eBay. Their fees stink. It is the most secure way to buy and sell watches, but it comes with a premium. The other side is all of the ridiculously low offers you get. It feels like you are being offered 2 quarters and some box tops for 2450.00 MSRP watch. Mostly I am just ranting, but does anyone else have similar experiences?

That must be frustrating. What are the ebay fees?

Usually around 15%

eBay fees is insane. If you sell something for like $200 your getting $110-120 back not including paying shipping for the seller

I have had many good experiences buying and selling on r/WatchExchange on Reddit. I took it slowly and started with small transactions until I got more comfortable and built up plenty of feedback. Now it's my go to place for buying/selling/trading watches

I find eBay fees to be reasonable for the reach and security they offer. I have sold on local sites and the audience just isn’t there compared to the international advertising you effectively get on eBay.

Yes buyers can sometimes be a headache but that’s the case anywhere especially with a fetish property like watches.

·

No. I've never sold a watch.

The time to truly make sure you love the watch is before you buy. I’ve never traded or sold a watch, because I know I’d rather keep it than take these losses.

Totally agree.

Reach and security.

Granted I'm no expert seller, but I'm almost TOO brutally honest.

List every single lil flaw, say item was worn, and basically short of a loupe check there might be micro scratches/tears.

No boxes, no papers sometimes. And no minimum. True auction, highest bidder takes it.

Whatever money I "loose" is the price I paid to rent the item for the next owner.

I don't have access to very many watch brands in the community where I live. So I have to buy online. It's like purchasing clothes online. I can fall in love with it, but until you actually try it on ..........

Ah, well that certainly adds a new detail. I never tried to sell a watch, in part because I know how crappy people are. I owned a Trans Am once, and oh, the tire kickers that wanted to offer the two quarters an and box tops you wrote of . . .

Lol. Now I have to come up with a term for the tire kickers of the watch purchase experience. Crown winders? Bezel beaters? Any suggestions?

You are kinder than I. I propose Vulture Cheapskates.

😂 Crown winders, perfect! They also wind us up of course too 🙂
