Is it just an excuse? Long story.

Both my dad and my mom’s dad were airplane pilots… My mom’s first husband was a pilot, he passed away on an airplane accident, and then years later she married my dad only on the condition that he gave up flying…

I now get to travel frequently because of work, and everytime I get on the plane, I think of my dad and my grandpa. I think of all the wonderful things they must have seen.

I wanted for a long time an aeronautic themed watch. There’s just no way I’m getting a GMT Master, and even though I could opt for a PanAm-inspired tudor GMT, I always gravitate back to Longines for their aviation heritage.

The romantic, nostalgic side of it makes me think about it time and time again… Could it be the Avigation BigEye? Could it be the 38mm Lindbergh? I don’t know…

Perhaps this is nothing but a mere excuse to remember my grandpa and my dad every time I put it on. Heck… I just don’t know. But I keep circling around Longines time and time again.

What do you think? Am I just making excuses? Is it worth it? Should I get one of these? Which one?

Here’s the airplane model my dad learned to fly on… It’s a Cessna 152 (If I remember correctly)

I think in a way it is… It’s just a way for me to think about them more intentionally whenever I travel. It is, in a way, a memento.

We might keep looking for an excuse to get another watch, and that's fine. And since it also helps you to remember and appreciate both your dad and your grandpa, then it's a plus too.

·

The connection that it would help intensify between your father and grandfather would be worth it alone. The plus is that the Big Eye looks great. Good luck.

Thank you! It is definitely a plus. It’s a great combo: a great looking watch + another way to celebrate the history of piloting in the family and also always remember my dad and my grandfather.

You’re right about that… thanks!

There is no wrong answer. Longines has a long aviation history. Follow your heart and buy whatever you want.

I agree, that’s the heritage I’m attracted to. I need to figure out which one I like best though.

Indeed my friend, I’ve yet to see it in person and try it on. That’s one thing I’m curious about. Perhaps that’s what I need to close the deal.

You're bang on with Longines! You almost cas't go wring with any of their stuff.

I have the Zulu Time and bloody love it. It's probably my favourite watch.

I tried the blue one, 39mm. That was a contender too in the fight for my money and subsequent wrist time. It is a great looking watch, and it delivers so much value…
